Cleveland re-signs Bryan Shaw
GOODYEAR, AZ – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the signing of free agent RHP BRYAN SHAW to a Major League contract for the 2022 season. To allow room on the 40-man roster, the club has placed RHP CODY MORRIS on the 60-day Injured List.
Shaw, 34, enters his seventh season with the Guardians organization, coming off a 2021 campaign in Cleveland in which he appeared in a Major League-leading 81 games. His career-high 81 appearances were the most in club history in a single-season, surpassing his previous club record of 80 GP in 2014. The Cal State Long Beach product owns the top three relief appearance seasons in club history and has led the A.L. in games pitched four times in his career (all with CLE). The franchise leader in career relief appearances (459 games), Shaw is currently fifth among MLB active players in holds with 174.
Drafted in the 2nd round (#73 overall) of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the right-hander was originally acquired by Cleveland acquired Shaw via a 3-team trade in December, 2012 from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was with the organization from 2013-2017 before spending two seasons with Colorado (2018-19) and a year with Seattle (2020). Cleveland has signed him as a free agent in back-to-back offseasons (2021 &2022).
