ESPN Radio will provide live national coverage of all 2023 World Series games.
CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCHES:
- Game Three – Two critical members of the 2001 World Series Championship D-backs will take the mound for the ceremonial first pitches – Luis Gonzalez and Hall of Famer Randy Johnson. The World Series heroes – Gonzalez with the walk-off, series-clinching hit; Johnson with the Game 7 win and World Series co-MVP – will reunite for the first Fall Classic Game at Chase Field in 22 years.
- Game Four – Masters Champion, Arizona State University alumnus and Phoenix resident Jon Rahm will throw the Game Four ceremonial first pitch.
FALL CLASSIC LEGACY TO GIVE BACK TO PHOENIX COMMUNITY: As part of the MLB Together platform (www.MLBTogether.com), an important effort in the spirit of Community and Philanthropy will take place in Phoenix. Before Game Three, MLB and the Arizona Diamondbacks are supporting the Cesar Chavez Community School with a donation to St. Mary’s Food Bank School Pantry program, a longtime partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The donation will put a St. Mary’s Food Bank pantry in the Title I school to support students at risk for food insecurity.
ROBERTO CLEMENTE AWARD PRESENTED BY CAPITAL ONE: Prior to Game Three, Major League Baseball will celebrate the legacy of one of baseball’s greatest humanitarians by announcing the recipient of the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One. The winner will be presented with his trophy by Baseball Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr., the Clemente Family, and Andy Navarrete of Capital One.
IN-GAME SU2C MOMENT & PEDIATRIC CANCER SURVIVOR FIRST PITCH: MLB, Stand Up To Cancer and Mastercard will continue the annual Fall Classic tradition of an in-game SU2C moment at Chase Field, featuring players, umpires, coaches and fans as they all hold up placards with the names of loved ones affected by the disease. The moment will take place after the 5th inning and will air LIVE on FOX. MLB and its 30 Clubs are the founding donors of SU2C, committing more than $50 million, to date, to SU2C’s innovative cancer research programs.
In honor of the impact and inspiration that Stand Up To Cancer has had on the cause, MLB will have two special honorary first pitches featuring cancer survivors, both of whom are either fans of the Diamondbacks and Rangers:
Texas Rangers Survivor:
- Diamondbacks Fan – Amy Gibbons is the immediate past President of the Phoenix Boys & Girls Club and an ovarian cancer survivor.
- Rangers Fan – Maddox Carmean is a 13-year-old boy that has gone through two bone marrow transplants. After his second transplant he stayed in the hospital for months, in and out of the Pediatric ICU. It was a challenging treatment and recovery, but he is now in remission and doing well. He and his family are avid baseball fans. In fact, he was named in honor a Hall of Fame pitcher. His grandfather also works in concessions at Globe Life Field.
MAKE-A-WISH FOR THE WORLD SERIES: MLB and the D-backs will provide a special experience for two young fans to have their wishes granted, through Make-A-Wish, to attend the World Series with their families.
BGCA GAME BALL DELIVERY: Youth from Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley will be participating in the game ball delivery.
