ST. LOUIS, Mo., October 22, 2024 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they hired Robert Cerfolio as their Assistant General Manager, Player Development & Performance.

Cerfolio, 32, joins the Cardinals Front Office from the Cleveland Guardians organization, where he has worked in a number of roles over the last decade:

• Director, Player Development (2022-24)
• Assistant Director, Player Development (2019-21)
• Assistant, Player Development (2018-19)
• Amateur Scouting Assistant (2016-18)
• Baseball Operations and Player Development Intern (2015)

“We are thrilled to welcome Rob and his family to the Cardinals,” said John Mozeliak, Cardinals President of Baseball Operations. “His beliefs on player development and performance are aligned with where we want to go, and he’s been a key leader in an organization whose methods and systems have stayed at the forefront of the industry while still putting people first.”

The Indian Springs, Ala. native graduated from John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham, Ala. before pitching three seasons at Yale University (2011-13). Cerfolio was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 34^th round of the 2013 MLB Draft, but did not sign. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Medicine from Yale in 2014.

Rob will immediately begin a search for a Farm Director and Director of Performance to join the organization, while additional baseball operations promotions include Matt Bayer to Senior Director of Baseball Development, Kevin Seats to Senior Director of Analytics, DC MacLea (pronounced “mi-CLAY”) to Manager of Video Technology, and Brady Hall to Player Development, Video and Tech Coordinator.
