Brewers name Minor League Players and Pitchers of the Month for June
Castillo and Quero Earn Players of the Month; Jarvis and Robinson Named Pitchers of the Month
MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers have named outfielder Luis Castillo and catcher Jeferson Quero as their Minor League Players of the Month for June and right-handers Justin Jarvis and Cam Robinson as Minor League Pitchers of the Month.
Castillo, 18, hit .371 (23-for-62) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HR and 16 RBI in 17 games with ACL Brewers Gold in June. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2021, Castillo led the Arizona Complex League in hits (23), extra-base hits (11), total bases (40), slugging percentage (.645) and OPS (1.074) and tied for the league lead in RBI.
Castillo also ranked among league leaders in batting average (2nd, .371), doubles (T3rd, 7) and on-base percentage (4th, .429). He was named Arizona Complex League Player of the Week for June 6-12 after hitting .500 (9-for-18) with 3 doubles, 2 HR, 4 RBI and 7 runs scored over 5 games in that span.
Quero, 19, batted .324 (24-for-74) with 3 doubles, 4 HR and 14 RBI in 21 games for Class-A Carolina in June. He ranked ninth in the Carolina League in slugging percentage (.527) and 10th in batting average and OPS (.939).
Signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2019, Quero led the Mudcats in batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases (5) in June and ranked second in RBI and OPS.
Jarvis, 22, went 3-1 with a 2.45 ERA (29.1ip, 8er) and 42 strikeouts over 5 starts for Class-A Wisconsin in June. The right-hander recorded double-digit strikeouts twice in the month, fanning 11 over 6.0 innings on June 17 at Great Lakes and striking out 10 on June 29 vs. Cedar Rapids.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, Jarvis led the Midwest League in strikeouts in June. He also ranked among the top five in the Midwest League in wins (T2nd, 3), innings pitched (4th, 29.1), WHIP (4th, 0.95) and ERA (4th, 2.45).
Robinson, 22, went 0-1 with a 2.19 ERA (12.1ip, 3er) and 9 saves in 11 relief appearances for Class-A Wisconsin in June. He went unscored upon in 10 of his 11 appearances and converted 9 of 10 save opportunities in the month. Robinson struck out 21 batters with just 4 walks in June.
Picked in the 23rd round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, Robinson led the Midwest League in saves and appearances in June. He currently leads all of Minor League Baseball in saves with 19.
