Blue Jays claim Castro and Lockett
The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed RHP Anthony Castro off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and RHP Walker Lockett off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.
Castro, 25, appeared in his only career Major League game as a member of the Detroit Tigers during the 2020 season, pitching one inning of relief. The native of Caracas, Venezuela, spent his entire 2019 campaign with Double-A Erie, going 5-3 with a 4.40 ERA across 18 starts and nine relief appearances, and was named to the Rising Stars team for his play in the Arizona Fall League. The 6-2, 185 lb. right-hander signed with Detroit in 2011 and has accumulated a 36-23 record with a 3.48 ERA over seven Minor League seasons.
Lockett, 26, pitched in two games last season for the New York Mets before he was claimed by the Seattle Mariners on September 1. Over 16.1 total innings of work in 2020, the 6-5, 225 lb. righty posted a 4.96 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP while fanning 11 batters. The Jacksonville, FL, native was selected by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and holds a 7.67 ERA across eight starts and 12 relief outings through three Major League seasons.
