Blue Jays acquire Banda

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired LHP Anthony Banda from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.

Banda, 28, appeared in 23 games for the Pirates this season, keeping a 6.41 ERA while punching out 22 batters over 19.2 innings of work. The 6-2, 220 lb. lefty was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round in 2012 and made his Major League debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017. Over the course of his six-year career, the native of Corpus Christi, TX, has gone 7-5 with a 5.50 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.

Additionally, RHP Julian Merryweather has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
