Baseball legends are reuniting for the first time in two years to celebrate the legacy of three Philadelphia Phillies icons – David Montgomery, Manny Trillo and Roy Halladay – during an unforgettable weekend of alumni events on August 6-8 at Citizens Bank Park.

“We look forward to joining our fans as we honor three remarkable men and the extraordinary impact they had on the game of baseball,” said Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck. “David Montgomery, Manny Trillo and Roy Halladay are all legends in their own right, each making an indelible mark in our history. It is only fitting that our Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame Weekend be dedicated to ensuring that their incredible contributions be forever remembered and celebrated for generations to come.”

Pregame tributes will feature special appearances by baseball greats such as Hall of Famers Steve Carlton, Pat Gillick and Mike Schmidt, as well as Wall of Famers Bobby Abreu, Bob Boone, Larry Bowa, John Kruk, Greg Luzinski, Mike Lieberthal, Garry Maddox, Charlie Manuel, and more. Former teammates of Roy Halladay will also be in attendance, including Raúl Ibañez and Carlos Ruiz. *Alumni subject to change.

Fans are encouraged to get to the ballpark early for special ceremonial first pitches and must-see pregame tributes. Tickets are available at phillies.com, with festivities taking place throughout the weekend’s series against the New York Mets.

TOYOTA PHILLIES WALL OF FAME WEEKEND LINEUP

Friday, August 6 – Phillies Honor David Montgomery. All fans receive a commemorative scorecard print of David Montgomery. Game time: 7:05 p.m.

·      David Montgomery, the team’s beloved former president and chief executive officer, will posthumously receive the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award in Cooperstown during **the Hall of Fame’s Annual **Awards Presentation on July 24. It’s one of the highest honors given by the Hall of Fame and the Phillies will be celebrating this remarkable achievement, as well as the legacy of David, during a special on-field tribute at Citizens Bank Park.

·      Among those taking part in the pregame event will be David’s family members, as well as surprise guests. To help commemorate this historic occasion, a new Hall of Fame Awards display will be unveiled in David’s honor, where it will be permanently located in the Hall of Fame Club at Citizens Bank Park. Also featured in this display will be broadcasters By Saam and Harry Kalas, who were winners of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented by the Hall of Fame for excellence in broadcasting.

·      David had an extraordinary career in baseball that spanned nearly 50 years, and he was devoted to the Phillies. Under his leadership, the club enjoyed one of the longest sustained periods of success in franchise history from 2007-11, winning five consecutive National League East titles, two NL pennants and the World Series in 2008. A Philadelphia icon, David’s impact extended beyond the game and into the community. He worked closely with Phillies Charities, Inc. and helped raise nearly $20 million for the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia. David passed away after a five-year battle with cancer in May 2019.

Saturday, August 7 – Toyota Manny Trillo Wall of Fame Night. All fans receive a Toyota Manny Trillo Wall of Fame Print. Game time: 4:05 p.m.

·      Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 3:45 p.m., as legend Manny Trillo, a key member of the 1980 World Series champions and one of the top defensive infielders in team history, is bestowed with one of the team’s highest honors and inducted into the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame. Among those taking part in the induction ceremony will be Phillies Wall of Famers, many of whom were on the 1980 World Series roster. Following his induction, Trillo will throw a ceremonial first pitch after taking a victory lap around the warning track.

·      A four-time All-Star – twice as a Phillie – Trillo was the starting second baseman when the Phillies won their first-ever World Series championship in 1980. Among his many honors, Trillo was MVP of the 1980 NLCS win over Houston, batting .381 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI. He also won three National League Gold Glove Awards (1979, 1981 & 1982) and two NL Silver Slugger Awards (1980–81). In his four seasons with the Phillies (1979-82), Trillo led all NL second basemen in games (501), hits (516), doubles (85) and total bases (686), outpacing peers such as Davey Lopes and Hall of Famer Joe Morgan. During his 1982 season, he led all major league second basemen with a .994 fielding percentage. 

Sunday, August 8 – Toyota Roy Halladay Number Retirement Day. All fans receive a Roy Halladay Retired Number Statue. Game time: 1:05 p.m.

·      On the final day of Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame Weekend, the Phillies will officially retire Roy Halladay’s No. 34 during a pregame ceremony at Citizens Bank Park, making “Doc” forever immortalized as an all-time Phillies great. Taking part in the ceremony will be Carlos Ruiz, the catcher behind the plate for Roy Halladay's perfect game in 2010 and his no-hitter in that year's postseason. Also celebrating Halladay’s incredible baseball career will be fellow Hall of Famer Steve Carlton and Doc’s teammate Raúl Ibañez.

·      Fans should be in their seats by 12:45 p.m. to witness this historic event, as Halladay’s number will be unveiled above the rooftop in Ashburn Alley, joining other elite players whose numbers have been retired by the Phillies, including Richie Ashburn (1), Robin Roberts (36), Steve Carlton (32), Mike Schmidt (20), Jim Bunning (14), Jackie Robinson (42) and most recently Dick Allen (15). In addition, Grover Cleveland Alexander and Chuck Klein are represented in this area as well.

·      The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of a six-foot-high, No. 34 statue at the Third Base Plaza, where it will stand permanently alongside Dick Allen’s No. 15, providing photo opportunities for fans upon entrance to the ballpark. This statue is similar to the other retired number statues at the Left Field Plaza.

·      To further commemorate this day, players will wear a jersey patch with the No. 34, and base jewels for the game will also include Doc’s retired number.

·      Halladay, who died tragically in November 2017 at the age of 40, amassed numerous accolades in his four seasons with the Phillies (2010-13) and overall in his career:

• On May 29, 2010, Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in MLB history, as the Phillies beat the Florida Marlins, 1-0. It was the second perfect game in Phillies history (Jim Bunning – 6/21/64).
• On October 6, 2010, in his first postseason start, Halladay threw the second no-hitter in MLB postseason history against the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the NLDS. Halladay is the only pitcher who has tossed a regular-season no-hitter and a postseason no-hitter in the same year.
• During his four seasons with the Phillies, Halladay won the 2010 NL Cy Young Award and was selected to two All-Star teams, including being named the starting pitcher in 2011. He also led all major league pitchers in complete games (18) and ranked fourth in the National League in wins (55).

o  In addition, Halladay was posthumously enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 21, 2019, in Cooperstown and also inducted into the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame in 2018.
