WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Athletics have agreed to terms with designated hitter/outfielder Brent Rooker on a five-year contract through the 2029 season, with a club option for 2030.

Rooker, 30, batted .293 with 39 home runs and 112 RBI in 145 games for the A’s in 2024. Among American League hitters, Rooker ranked third in RBI, fourth in home runs, fifth in slugging percentage (.562), sixth in OPS (.927), and seventh in batting average and on-base percentage (.365). Rooker became the first A’s player to be in the AL top-10 in all three Triple Crown categories since Miguel Tejada in 2002. His 34 home runs as a designated hitter rank sixth in A’s history and his 99 RBI at the position rank fifth. He was named a 2024 Louisville Silver Slugger award winner, the first A’s player to win the award since third baseman Eric Chavez in 2002 and the first Athletic to win it as a designated hitter.

Rooker was selected as an American League All-Star in 2023 and became the first A’s designated hitter to be represented at the All-Star Game. He was the first Athletics outfielder to be selected to the All-Star Game since Yoenis Céspedes in 2014. He finished the 2023 season with a .246 batting average, 30 home runs, 20 doubles, 61 runs scored, and 69 RBI in 137 games.

In two seasons with the A’s, Rooker has hit .272 with 69 home runs, 46 doubles, 181 RBI, 143 runs scored, and an .876 OPS. He is the first A’s player with consecutive 30-homer seasons since Khris Davis in 2016, 2017, and 2018. Rooker is just one of 14 players in franchise history with multiple 30-home run seasons.
