Astros Youth Academy Wins Jennie Finch Classic Tournament

HOUSTON, TX – The Astros Youth Academy softball team has won the Jennie Finch Classic tournament held at the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy as part of MLB’s All-Star Week in Dallas. The Astros AYA softball team went 6-0 in the annual tournament, downing the Compton MLB Youth Academy this morning in the Championship game by a score of 8-7. The Astros Youth Academy baseball team also had a strong showing at the Commissioner’s Cup tournament, going 3-1 over the weekend.

The All-Star Commissioner’s Cup and Jennie Finch Classic, presented by ARM & HAMMMER, featured 10 teams of youth baseball and softball players (ages 17 and under) from MLB Youth Academies and Nike Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) programs from around the country and in Puerto Rico.

The Astros Youth Academy is also home to the Houston Astros Nike RBI program, which is in its 11th year as an Astros Foundation-run program. The Astros Nike RBI program has established a legacy of success nationally, particularly the Astros Nike RBI Softball Team, which has won four recent MLB Nike RBI World Series titles (2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023). The Astros Nike RBI Senior Boys have also sustained success, advancing to the MLB Nike RBI World Series in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2022 and in 2023, finally breaking through to win their first World Series title. The softball and baseball teams will next compete in the Nike RBI Southwest Regionals, which will be played in Arlington July 25-27.

The Astros Youth Academy is the cornerstone of the Astros Foundation with the initiative to provide youth baseball and softball to the young athletes in the Greater Houston Area. The Academy’s experienced staff serve over 20,000 participants providing free baseball and softball instruction, life-skills training, academic support, and initiatives to young athletes year-round.
