Angels make ten selections on third day of 2024 First-Year Player Draft

ANAHEIM - The Angels selected 10 players today during day three of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Among today's picks were four high school players and six college players, including seven pitchers, one infielder and two outfielders.

To begin the day (11th round - 322nd overall), the Angels made their second high school selection of the Draft with RHP Trey Gregory-Alford from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, CO. The 2023-24 Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year was ranked as the No. 105 prospect in the 2024 Draft class by MLB.com.

The Halos 12th round pick (352nd overall), was RHP Fran Oschell III out of Duke University. Over three seasons with the Blue Devils, he pitched to a 3.75 ERA (69.2 IP - 29 ER) with 94 strikeouts across 51 appearances.

RHP Fulton Lockhart was selected in the 13th round (382nd overall) out of the College of Central Florida. In 2024, he made 22 appearances with the Patriots and recorded 14.31 strikeouts per nine innings (33.1 IP - 53 SO). Prior to attending CCF, he made one appearance as a true freshman at the University of South Florida in 2023.

In the 14th round (412th overall), the Angels selected RHP Najer Victor out of the University of Central Florida. He was the only U.S. Virgin Island born player to be selected in the 2024 Draft. Through 20 relief appearances in 2024, he recorded 11 scoreless outings. Prior to playing two seasons at UCF, he attended Florida Gulf Coast University for two years.

OF Bailan Caraballo was selected in the 15th round (442nd overall) out of Reborn Christian Academy in Kissimmee, FL. The University of Miami commit was the Angels first outfield selection at the 2024 Draft.

With their 16th round selection (472nd overall), the Angels drafted LHP Will Gervase from Wake Forest University. In 2024, he appeared in eight games out of the bullpen. His older brother, Paul, was selected by the New York Mets (12th round - 359th overall) in the 2022 Draft.

The Halos 17th round pick (502nd overall), was OF Lucas Ramirez out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, FL. The University of Tennessee commit is the son of 12-time All-Star and two-time World Series Champion Manny Ramirez.

In the 18th round (532nd overall), the Angels drafted SS David Mershon out of Mississippi State University. As a sophomore in 2024, was named First-Team All-SEC after batting .347 (77/222) with 27 stolen bases, which tied for second-most in the SEC.

In the 19th round (562nd overall), the Angels selected RHP Connor Gatwood from Baker High School in Mobile, AL and in the 20th round (592nd overall), selected RHP Zachary Redner out of Hillsborough Community College (FL). Gatwood was ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 1 pitching prospect and No. 2 overall prospect in Alabama in the 2024 Draft class. Redner pitched 57.1 innings across 15 appearances at Hillsborough in 2024.
