Adolis Garcia is American League outfield finalist on 2021 Google MLB All-Star Ballot

Arlington, Texas—Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers has been elected as one of nine finalists for the three American League starting outfield spots in the 2021 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Denver’s Coors Field. Major League Baseball made the announcement this morning.

Garcia ranked fifth among A.L. outfielders in the Phase 1 fan voting to select the All-Star starters with 879,989 votes, just 11,533 votes behind the fourth place finisher, Houston’s Michael Brantley. The top three finishers in the Phase 1 outfield balloting were Los Angeles’ Mike Trout, New York’s Aaron Judge, and Minnesota’s Byron Buxton. The other four finalists with the sixth through ninth highest vote totals are Toronto’s Teoscar Hernandez, Baltimore’s Cedric Mullins, Boston’s Alex Verdugo, and Toronto’s Randal Grichuk. Phase 1 of the All-Star Balloting ran from June 3-24.   

The second phase of voting, which begins tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. CT features the top three vote-getters at each position (and the top nine outfielders) in each League based on vote totals from Phase 1.

Phase 2 voting, which is available exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com, all 30 Club sites, the MLB App and on Google Search (U.S. and Canada only) will give fans the opportunity to vote among the finalists at each position during a four-day window that concludes at 1:00 p.m. CT on Thursday, July 1st. Later that night, the winners will be announced at 8:00 p.m. CT on the 2021 Google MLB All-Star Starters Reveal on ESPN.

During this second phase of voting, fans can vote once daily on MLB platforms and submit up to 17 unique player votes on Google per day, and vote totals will reset (vote totals from Phase 1 do not carry over). During the Phase 2 voting period, MLB will provide daily updates on MLB.com and Twitter (@AllStarGame), and will also deliver a final update on MLB’s Twitch channel on Thursday, July 1st at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Entering play on Sunday, Garcia is batting .275 with 20 home runs and 54 RBI in 67 games and ranks among the A.L. leaders in homers (T3rd), RBI (T4th), and slugging (8th, .543) while leading Major League rookies in all three categories. He is the first Texas rookie ever with 20 homers before the All-Star break.

The Rangers had two finalists in the Phase 2 All-Star Balloting in 2019, the first season this format was instituted. Hunter Pence won the starting position as the A.L’s All-Star designated hitter but did not play in the game due to injury. Joey Gallo finished seventh in the A.L. outfield voting and was subsequently selected to the A.L. All-Star squad as a reserve through the player voting. Gallo homered in the July 9 ASG at Cleveland.
