A’s reinstate RHP Bassitt from injured list; place LHP Moll on paternity list
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt from the injured list and placed left-handed pitcher Sam Moll on the paternity list, the club announced today. The A’s also announced that catcher Aramis Garcia, who was designated for assignment on Monday when Oakland claimed Michael Feliz off waivers, has been released.
Bassitt will be making his first start since Aug. 17 at Chicago (AL) when he was hit in the face by a Brian Goodwin line drive in the second inning. He was placed on the IL Aug. 18 with a right facial fracture and had surgery on Aug. 24. Bassitt is 12-4 with a 3.22 ERA in 25 starts. At the time of the injury, he was leading the American League in wins, innings pitched (151.0) and games started, ranked second in opponents OPS (.628), slugging percentage (.351) and winning percentage (.750), third in ERA, on-base percentage (.277) and batting average (.219) and sixth in strikeouts (154)
Moll has pitched in six games over three stints with the A’s this year and has not allowed a run in 7.2 innings. Opponents are 4-for-25 (.160) with no extra base hits but he has issued four walks.
Garcia was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was batting .205 with three home runs and seven RBI in 32 games before he was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on July 31 following the acquisition of Yan Gomes. He was hitting .268 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 30 games with the Aviators.
