A's reinstate LHP Alexander from injured list; option RHP Boyle to Las Vegas
INF CJ Alexander Claimed on Waivers; OF Esteury Ruiz transferred to 60-day IL
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s reinstated left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. The club also claimed infielder CJ Alexander from the Kansas City Royals and transferred outfielder Esteury Ruiz to the 60-day injured list.
Scott Alexander returns to the active roster and did not make a rehab appearance during his stint on the 15-day injured list with left rotator cuff tendonitis. In 34 games with the A’s this season, he is 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA, 20 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 28.2 innings pitched including a .375 opponents OPS against left-handed hitters.
Boyle was on the A’s Opening Day roster and was 2-5 with a 7.16 ERA and .765 opponents OPS in seven starts when he was placed on the 15-day injured list May 6 with a lower back strain. He was reinstated from the IL and optioned to Las Vegas on June 5. He was recalled on August 13 for his second stint with the A’s and went 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA, 20 strikeouts, and 13 walks in four appearances (3 starts).
CJ Alexander played in four games this season for the Royals in his Major League debut, slashing .125/.125/.125. He spent the majority of this season with Triple-A Omaha, where he hit .303 with 23 doubles, five triples, and 16 home runs in 82 games for the Storm Chasers. He will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Ruiz hit .200 with two home runs, eight RBI and five stolen bases in 29 games over two stints with the A’s. He batted .168 in 25 games since he was recalled on April 15. He played in 105 games with the A’s over the previous two seasons and is a .227 career hitter with 10 home runs and 28 RBI.
