A’s recall RHP Joey Estes; option LHP Easton Lucas
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Joey Estes and optioned left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. Estes is scheduled to start tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners.
Estes is 2-3 with a 6.04 ERA and .932 opponents OPS in six starts for the Aviators. The 22-year-old right-hander has struck out 26 and walked 10 in 28.1 innings and has a .272 opponents batting average, which breaks down to .213 (13-for-61) with a .791 OPS against right-handed hitters compared to .340 (18-for-53) with a 1.087 OPS against left-handers. Estes made his Major League debut with the A’s last season went 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA and 1.005 opponents OPS in two September starts.
Lucas was selected on Wednesday and made two appearances with the A’s, allowing three runs over 2.1 innings while walking two and striking out six. He is 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA and .699 opponents OPS in 11 games, including one start, with Las Vegas. The 27-year-old left-hander made his Major League debut with Oakland last year and has compiled a 9.00 ERA and .940 opponents OPS in eight relief appearances with the A’s overall.
