A's recall INF Tristan Gray from Triple-A Las Vegas; activate RHP Janson Junk

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s recalled infielder Tristan Gray from Triple-A Las Vegas and activated right-handed pitcher Janson Junk, the club announced today.

Gray was claimed off waivers by the A’s from Miami on Aug. 27 and is 5-for-13 with a double, a triple, and a home run in three games with Las Vegas. He began the season at Triple-A Jacksonville and was batting .227 with six doubles and 10 home runs at the time of his first promotion to the Major League roster on May 12. In seven games across two stints with the Marlins, the left-handed hitter went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts. Originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the 13th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, Gray was traded to with Daniel Hudson to Tampa Bay for Corey Dickerson in February 2018 and made his Major League debut with the Rays on Sept. 16, 2023. In seven minor league seasons, Gray is batting .238 with a .311 on-base percentage in 727 games.

Junk was claimed off waivers from Houston yesterday. He began the season with Triple-A Nashville in the Brewers organization and made five appearances across two stints with Milwaukee, allowing six runs in 8.0 innings. The right-hander was claimed off waivers by the Astros on Aug. 2 and started four games for Triple-A Sugar Land, allowing 10 runs across 14.2 innings. Originally drafted by the Yankees in the 22nd round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, Junk was traded with Elvis Peguero to Los Angeles-AL at the 2021 trading deadline and made his Major League debut with the Angels on Sept. 5, 2021. He was traded with Peguero and minor leaguer Adam Seminaris to the Brewers in November 2022. Overall, he is 1-3 with a 5.18 ERA in 14 career games, including seven starts, across parts of four seasons with the Angels and Brewers.
