A’s Claim OF Brent Rooker off Waivers from Kansas City
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s claimed outfielder Brent Rooker off waivers from the Kansas City Royals, the club announced today.
Rooker combined to go 4-for-32 (.125) with a double, two RBI and three walks in 16 games with Kansas City and San Diego last season. He also hit .289 with 28 home runs, 87 RBI and a 1.044 OPS in 81 games with Triple-A El Paso and Triple-A Omaha. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter tied for seventh among all Triple-A hitters in home runs, ranked 10th in extra base hits (55) and tied for 10th in RBI. Rooker made his Major League debut with Minnesota in 2020 and is a .200 career hitter with 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 81 games in three seasons in the majors with the Twins (2020-21), Padres (2022) and Royals (2022). He was selected by the Twins as a competitive balance pick following the first round of the 2017 draft and is a .269 hitter with 102 home runs, 314 RBI and a .909 OPS in 402 games over five seasons in the minors.
