A’s claim LHP Richard Lovelady off waivers from Atlanta
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s claimed left-handed pitcher Richard Lovelady off waivers from Atlanta and assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the A’s transferred right-handed pitcher Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list.
Lovelady appeared in four games for Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves organization this season, allowing four runs in 5.0 innings while striking out four and walking two batters. He was originally selected by Kansas City in the 10th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. The 27-year-old left-handed pitcher made his Major League debut in 2019 with Kansas City and is 2-3 with a 5.62 ERA in 46 career games in parts of three seasons with the Royals (2019-21). He was traded to the Braves for cash considerations on March 30, 2023.
Tarnok was placed on the 15-day IL on March 30 with a strained right shoulder. He allowed one run in 5.0 innings across two outings for the A’s this spring, striking out three and walking two.
