A’s acquire RHP Joe Boyle from Reds for LHP Sam Moll
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s have acquired right-handed pitcher Joe Boyle from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for left-handed pitcher Sam Moll and international pool money, the club announced today.
Boyle, 23, is 6-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 19 starts for Double-A Chattanooga this season, including 122 strikeouts and 75 walks in 84.0 innings pitched. Drafted in the fifth round of the 2020 draft out of Notre Dame, Boyle is Cincinnati’s 28th-ranked prospect according to MLB.com. In three professional seasons, he is 9-11 with a 3.48 ERA to go along with 316 strikeouts in 204.1 innings of work.
Moll is 0-3 with a save and a 4.54 ERA in 45 appearances this season for Oakland. He made his Major League debut in 2017 and has spent parts of four seasons with the A’s and is 2-4 with a save and a 4.13 ERA in 117 career Major League appearances.
