Padres Select Kash Mayfield with 25th Overall Pick in Major League Baseball's 2024 First-Year Player Draft
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres selected left-handed pitcher Kash Mayfield from Elk City High School (Okla.) with the 25th overall pick in MLB’s 2024 First-Year Player Draft, President of Baseball Operations & General Manager A.J. Preller and Vice President of Amateur and International Scouting Chris Kemp announced today.
Recommended by Padres Area Scout Steve Moritz, Mayfield, 19, is a two-time Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year award winner after going 8-0 on the mound with a 0.16 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 44 innings this past Spring, walking just eight to record a 0.27 WHIP. He limited opponents to a .030 batting average and recorded 2.61 strikeouts per nine innings, surrendering only four hits and one earned run. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound left-handed hitter also played outfield for the Elks (28-5) en route to the Oklahoma 4-A state semifinals, batting .476 with two home runs, 13 doubles, 11 triples, 31 RBI and 31 runs scored including a .629 OBP and 1.593 OPS to go along with 21 stolen bases in 22 attempts. Ranked as the nation’s No. 27 prospect in the Class of 2024 by MLB Pipeline, he was a 2023 Perfect Game All-American, the Most Valuable Pitcher at the World Wood Bat Association championships and was a 2023 USA Baseball prospect selection.
