Padres Announce "Padres Thank SD" Community Program Details for 2019
The San Diego Padres, in partnership with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, today announced details surrounding their "Padres Thank SD" community initiative as part of their year-long 50th Anniversary celebration.
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres, in partnership with the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, today announced details surrounding their "Padres Thank SD" community initiative as part of their year-long 50th Anniversary celebration. With the dedicated support of the San Diego community for the past 50 years serving as an integral part of the club's history, the Padres and the Padres Foundation have partnered with Sycuan to express their gratitude through projects that will make a positive and lasting impact on the community. In total, the Padres Foundation, Sycuan and other organizations will support charitable projects totaling over one million dollars in 2019. Projects range from funding matches for Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorship program, to renovating a Miracle League field for boys and girls with special needs and many more. Padres Thank SD Projects
Make-A-Wish San Diego - Since its inception, Make-A-Wish San Diego has helped grant over 4,000 wishes to children with critical illness. After signing five-year-old wish kid Levi Smith to a one-day contract last year for his one true wish, the Padres will continue to assist in making wishes come true in 2019.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County - Big Brothers Big Sisters aims to provide children who could benefit from an additional layer of support with professionally maintained, one-to-one mentoring relationships that positively change their lives.
Veterans Village of San Diego - As the only program of its kind, Veterans Village of San Diego is a nationally recognized leader in serving homeless military veterans. Services include but are not limited to housing, employment and rehabilitation.
Monarch School - With its proximity to Petco Park and mission to educate and equip youth impacted by homelessness, the Monarch School will continue to serve as a close community partner of the Padres in 2019.
Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) - MCRD hosts the only RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) site in the country on an active military base. The RBI program, sponsored by Major League Baseball, is designed to promote the game of baseball to boys and girls in underserved areas.
USO San Diego - USO San Diego's mission is to strengthen America's military by keeping them connected to family, home and country throughout their time in service. With four locations in San Diego, the USO is proud to support over 222,000 individuals annually.
Miracle League of San Diego - The Miracle League of San Diego was created in 2005 and allows children with special needs to play the game of baseball by arranging organized, hour-long games at two locations in San Diego.
Rady Children's Hospital San Diego - The Padres are proud to continue their longstanding support of Rady Children's Hospital in 2019. Rady Children's is the largest hospital in California and offers the region's only designated pediatric trauma center.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (William J. Oakes Branch) - Located only two miles from Petco Park, the William J. Oakes Branch is the closest in proximity to the ballpark and the oldest Boys & Girls Club branch in San Diego county. The William J. Oakes Branch serves over 24,000 kids annually ages 5 to 8 years old with academic and athletic programming.
Kumeyaay Community College - The Kumeyaay Community College aims to promote a quality education for the Kumeyaay/Diegueño Nation, California Native American Indians and other individuals interested in a unique and supportive educational experience.
An additional non-profit organization in the Baja region will be added to the program and announced at a future date.
