Mariners select RHP Isaiah Campbell 76th overall in 2019 MLB Draft

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Seattle Mariners selected right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell from the University of Arkansas with their Competitive Balance Round B selection (76th overall pick) in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, Director of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter announced tonight. The Mariners acquired the 76th overall pick in this year's draft from Cleveland (along with 1B/DH Edwin Encarnación) in exchange for 1B Carlos Santana on Dec. 13, 2018.
Campbell, 21, is 11-1 with a 2.27 ERA (26 ER, 103.0 IP) with 108 strikeouts and 19 walks in 16 starts with Arkansas this season. He has helped lead the Razorbacks to an appearance in the NCAA Super Regionals against Ole Miss this weekend in Fayetteville, AR. The redshirt-junior right-hander was named 1 of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award on May 15. He is the 12th player in school history to eclipse 100 strikeouts in a season.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2018, he went 5-7 with a 4.26 ERA (33 ER, 69.2 IP) with 75 strikeouts and 29 walks in 18 appearances (17 starts). On June 22, 2018, he earned the win that sent Arkansas to the College World Series Finals, striking out 8 over 5.1 innings pitched in a 5-2 win over Florida.
In 2017, he made just 1 appearance and earned a medical redshirt. He began his career at Arkansas in 2016, posting a record of 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA (13 ER, 31.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts and 11 walks in 13 games (6 starts).
Campbell was born in Portugal, but graduated from Olathe South High School in Olathe, KS, where he was ranked the No. 7 prospect in the state of Kansas and the No. 4 right-handed pitcher in the state. As a senior, he went 5-1 with a 1.66 ERA while striking out 42 in 33.2 innings pitched.
