James Outman of the Los Angeles Dodgers named the National League Rookie of the Month for August; Zack Gelof of the Oakland Athletics named the American League Rookie of the Month for August
Outfielder James Outman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for August, and second baseman Zack Gelof of the Oakland Athletics has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for August.
Outman earned his second monthly honor, also winning in April of this season. Overall, he is one of nine Dodgers rookies to take home the honor, joining Kazuhisa Ishii (April 2002); James Loney (September 2007); Blake DeWitt (May 2008); Dee Strange-Gordon (September 2011); Yasiel Puig (June 2013); Alex Guerrero (April 2015); Corey Seager (June 2016); and Cody Bellinger (May and June 2017).
Gelof earned his first monthly honor and became the first Athletics player to win since Ryon Healy in September of 2016. Overall, it is the 11th recognition for an Athletics rookie with Gelof becoming the 10th different player to win the award, joining Carlos Peña (April 2002); Bobby Crosby (June 2004); Joe Blanton (June and August 2005); Andrew Bailey (August 2009); Brett Anderson (September 2009); Jemile Weeks (June 2011); Yoenis Céspedes (September 2012); Nate Freiman (May 2013); and Healy.

• The 26-year-old hit .277 (23-for-83) with five home runs, 15 RBI, two doubles, 16 walks, 17 runs, two stolen bases, a .408 on-base percentage and .482 slugging percentage in 26 games during August.
• The California native led NL rookies in on-base percentage and walks; tied for the lead in home runs and OPS (.890); ranked second in batting average and slugging; tied for second in RBI; and tied for third in runs scored.
• A seventh-round selection in the 2018 Draft, Outman recorded multiple hits in four games last month.
He recorded his second career four-hit performance on August 7th at San Diego, and reached base a total
of five times, also for the second time in his career.
• The left-handed slugger connected on back-to-back home runs with Jason Heyward in the sixth inning
of a 7-4 victory over the Diamondbacks on August 28th. Outman also homered on August 27th at Boston,
marking the second time in his career that he homered in back-to-back games.
• The rookie had a career-high six-game hitting streak from August 27th through September 1st, going 6-
for-18 (.333) with one homer, two RBI, three walks and three runs scored.

• The 23-year-old hit .286 (30-for-105) with seven home runs, 15 RBI, eight doubles, 10 walks, four stolen bases and a .562 slugging percentage in 27 games during August.
• The Delaware native led AL rookies in doubles, extra-base hits (15), and total bases (59); tied for first in home runs; ranked second in hits (30); and third in slugging.
• The second-round selection in the 2021 Draft tallied multiple hits in seven of his 27 games including two
four-hit games on August 13th at Washington and August 16th at St. Louis. He slugged two home runs
on August 13th against the Nationals, going deep in the first and fifth innings for his first career multi-homer game.
• The second baseman had hits in a career-high six consecutive contests from August 16th-22nd, batting
.458 (11-for-24) with one homer, three RBI, two doubles, four walks, four runs, two stolen bases and a 1.202 OPS during the stretch.
• With one more stolen base, Gelof would become the fifth rookie in Athletics history with at least 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases in a single season, joining Yoenis Céspedes (2012); Jose Canseco (1986); Mitchell Page (1977); and Ed Charles (1962).
Others receiving votes for NL Rookie of the Month included starting pitcher Javier Assad (2-0, 2.48, 5 GS, 29.0 IP, 20 SO) of the Chicago Cubs; outfielder Nolan Jones (.281, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 9 2B, 1 3B, 13 BB, 15 R, .521SLG) and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (.252, 5 HR, 15 RBI, 5 2B, 7 BB, 18 R) of the Colorado Rockies; outfielder Corbin Carroll (.269, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 2B, 3 3B, 12 BB, 19 R, 8 SB) of the Diamondbacks; starting pitcher Kodai Senga (3-2, 3.16 ERA, 5 GS, 31.1 IP, 34 SO) of the New York Mets; and catcher Patrick Bailey (.257, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 3 2B, 12 BB, 8 R) of the San Francisco Giants.
