The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy from the 10-day disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
McCarthy, who missed 11 games with right knee tendonitis, last pitched on June 25 against Colorado allowing five runs on four hits in 3.0 innings with two strikeouts, as he did not factor in the decision in the Dodgers' 12-6 victory. In 13 starts this season, he has posted a 6-3 record with a 3.25 ERA (26 ER/72.0 IP) and has struck out 57 batters against 20 walks, while holding batters to a .229 average.
Van Slyke, who was recalled on Thursday from Triple-A OKC, has gone 5-for-41 (.122) with six runs, one double, two home runs and three RBI in 29 games with Los Angeles this season.
