Cardinals recall Giovanny Gallegos and Tyler Webb
Yairo Munoz and Alex Reyes optioned to Triple-A Memphis
The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to today’s series finale with San Diego, that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Giovanny Gallegos and left-handed pitcher Tyler Webb from Memphis (AAA), and optioned infielder Yairo Muñoz and right-handed pitcher Alex Reyes to the Triple-A Redbirds following yesterday’s game.
Gallegos, 27, who was acquired by the Cardinals last July in a trade with the New York Yankees, appeared in two games for the Cardinals last September after helping Memphis to both the Pacific Coast League and Triple-A National Championship titles. The 6-2, 210-pound native of Sonora, Mexico has appeared in 22 combined games in the Majors the past two seasons (2017-18) between the Yankees and Cardinals.
Webb, 28, made 18 relief appearances with the Cardinals in 2018 following a waiver claim from the Padres in late June. He’s a combined 0-1, 4.76 ERA in 31 games (all in relief) in the Majors, pitching for the New York Yankees, Milwaukee, San Diego and St. Louis.
Reyes made four relief appearances for the Cardinals to begin the 2019 season and Munoz was 1-for-4 in his four games played this year.
Gallegos wears uniform No. 65 and Webb is No. 30.
