Blue Jays complete trade with Astros
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired OF DEREK FISHER from the HOUSTON ASTROS in exchange for RHP JOE BIAGINI, RHP AARON SANCHEZ, and OF CAL STEVENSON.
FISHER, 25, has played in 17 Major League games for the Astros this season, batting .226 (12-for-53) with two doubles, a triple, one home run and five RBI. The 6-3, 205 lb. left-handed hitting outfielder has spent most of 2019 with Triple-A Round Rock, where he has hit .286 with nine doubles, one triple, 14 home runs and 36 RBI in 60 contests. The University of Virginia product has played in 112 games across three seasons for Houston while hitting .201 with 22 extra-base hits.
BIAGINI, 29, has posted a 3.78 ERA in 50 relief appearances this season to go with a 3-1 record and one save. The 6-5, 235 lb. righty was selected by the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 Draft on December 10, 2015 and has pitched in four seasons for Toronto, recording a 4.76 ERA over 203 career games.
SANCHEZ, 27, went 3-14 with a 6.07 ERA in 23 starts for the Blue Jays this season. The 6-4, 210 lb. right-handed pitcher has thrown 112.2 innings, allowing 131 hits with 59 walks and 99 strikeouts. The 2010 first-round pick led the American League in 2016 with a 3.00 ERA and was named to the AL All-Star game that year. The native of Barstow, CA posted a record of 32-33 with a 3.96 ERA across six seasons with Toronto.
STEVENSON, 22, has hit .298 with nine doubles, four triples, five home runs and 50 RBI for Advanced-A Dunedin in 2019. Over the course of two Minor League seasons, the 5-10, 175 lb. left-handed hitter from Fremont, CA has slashed .325/.439/.444 with 34 extra-base hits in 149 games.
