The Oakland A's reinstated right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill from the 10-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Jake Smolinski to Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today.
Cahill was placed on the disabled list May 9 retroactive to May 6 with a right shoulder impingement. He signed with the A's as a free agent on March 19 and began the year at Nashville, where he went 0-1 with a 3.72 ERA in two starts. Cahill was promoted to Oakland April 17 and went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in four starts before going on the DL.
Smolinski was on the A's Opening Day roster and was hitting .118 with no home runs and two RBIs in 16 games. He had played in just six of the A's last 26 games and was 3-for-15 (.200) with both of his extra-base hits (one double, one triple) over that stretch.
