OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitchers Chris Bassitt and Josh Lucas from Triple-A Nashville and optioned left-handed pitcher Daniel Coulombe to Nashville, the club announced today.
Bassitt returns to Oakland for the first time since having UCL reconstruction surgery on his right elbow on May 6, 2016. He had a win and a 0.69 ERA in three relief appearances with Nashville, but each of his three outings lasted 4.0 innings or more. The 29-year-old right-hander held the opposition to a .188 batting average, including .100 against left-handed hitters. Bassitt is 2-11 with a 4.13 ERA in 29 games, including 23 starts, in three seasons in the majors with the White Sox (2014) and A's (2015-16). His last Major League appearance came on April 28, 2016, a loss in a start at Detroit (3.2 ip, 10 h, 7 r, 7 er, 3 bb, 5 so).
Lucas was acquired from St. Louis on March 31 for minor league right-handed pitcher Casey Meisner and began the season at Nashville. He had one save and did not allow a run or a hit in four games and 4.2 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander did not allow a run in nine games and 11.1 innings this spring with St. Louis before he was optioned to Triple-A Memphis March 23 and designated for assignment on March 28. Lucas made his Major League debut last year during two late-season stints with the Cardinals and logged a 3.68 ERA and .259 opponents batting average in five relief appearances.
Coulombe was on the A's Opening Day roster and had a loss and a 5.79 ERA in nine relief appearances. He did not allow a run in four appearances (4.0 ip) on the first homestand but has allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 5.1 innings over his last five contests.
