OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe from Triple-A Nashville and reinstated right-handed pitcher Yusmeiro Petit from the bereavement list, the club announced today. The A's also placed left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to yesterday with a strained left shoulder.
Coulombe was on the A's Opening Day roster and compiled a 5.79 ERA and .265 opponents batting average in nine relief appearances before he was optioned to Nashville a week ago today. After tossing 4.0 scoreless innings over his first four outings, he allowed seven runs in 5.1 innings over his final five contests. The 28-year-old left-hander made one appearance with the Sounds following his option and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings against New Orleans on Wednesday, allowing a hit and no walks while striking out three.
Petit was on the family medical emergency list from April 17-20 and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings over two outings following his return before going on the bereavement list Tuesday. He has a 2.51 ERA and .250 opponents batting average in 12 games overall with the A's. Petit has not walked a batter in 14.1 innings and his innings pitched are the most in the majors among pitchers with no walks.
Buchter is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and .250 opponents batting average in 13 relief appearances and has stranded all four of his inherited runners. After allowing four runs over his first seven games, he currently has a six-game, 4.0-inning scoreless streak. This is his first career stint on the disabled list.
