The Oakland A's acquired catcher Jonah Heim from the Tampa Bay Rays as the player to be named later in the Joey Wendle trade of Dec. 11
Heim played for the Rays Single-A affiliates at Bowling Green and Charlotte in 2017 and combined to hit .260 with nine home runs and 61 RBI in 93 games. He tossed out 30-of-67 (44.8%) attempted base stealers and has thrown out 116-of-336 (34.5%) in his career. The 22-year-old switch-hitter was originally selected by Baltimore in the fourth round of the 2013 draft and was traded to the Rays Aug. 1, 2016. Heim is a .231 career hitter with 19 home runs and 123 RBI in 313 games in five professional seasons.
