Grew up in Valencia, VZ, which is the capital city in the Carabobo state and third-largest city in Venezuela...Grew up in a family of eight that included three brothers and two sisters. Three of the four sons are named Wilmer, however no one but dad gets to be called Wilmer. SF’s Wilmer is called “Catire’’ (pronounced kah-tear-ay) by his family for his blonde hair as a baby (Catire is Venezuelan slang for a blondie)...His youngest brother, Wilmer De Jesus Flores, is called “Chiquito,” meaning “little” and his other brother, Wilmer Rafael Flores, is called “Patacon,” which is a popular Venezuelan dish made from fried plantains. Flores’ oldest brother (and the only one that isn’t named Wilmer) is named Ronny...Wilmer De Jesus Flores (also a baseball player)is a starting pitcher on the 40-man roster in the Tigers organization. This past offseason the baseball-playing Wilmers both suited up for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League...It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that when the Giants Wilmer and Ivonelis had their first baby in March of 2023 they named him...Wilmer José...His favorite TV show is Friends and has used the show’s theme song “I’ll Be There For You” as his at-bat music. One of the ways he improved his English was by watching all 236 episodes...He took English classes provided by the Mets and bolstered his language skills by watching American television with a dictionary by his side...Wilmer loves clothes and is always dressed to impress. During the 2021 offseason, Wilmer’s partner needed to renew her visa to enter the U.S. Since any U.S. Embassy would work, they decided to go to the U.S. Embassy in Milan, Italy, and make a vacation of it. During their week in Milan, he and his wife bought two new suitcases to carry all the new Italian clothes back to Venezuela...His favorite home-cooked meal (and his favorite food overall) is pasticho, which he describes is like lasagna but a little different...Loves pizza and typically has it on Sundays. Some of his favorite toppings are pepperoni, cheese, ham, corn (which he admits they don’t put on pizza much in the US) and anchovies. Has to have his pizza with a Coca-Cola.
