In three seasons with Clemson University, he amassed a .315 batting average (210-for-667) with 54 doubles, seven triples, 20 home runs and 142 RBI in 186 games...led the team with a .356 batting average, 100 hits, 22 doubles and 171 total bases in his final year as a junior...ranked second on the team with 13 home runs and 70 RBI...graduated from North Augusta (S.C.) High School in 2004.
2012
Spent the entire 2012 season in the Majors with Colorado as a versatile player that saw time at all three outfield positions and first base, as well as appearing all over the lineup...he made 12 starts at leadoff, 14 starts at 2nd, two starts at 3rd, four starts at 4th, 29 starts at 5th, 24 starts at 6th and 12 starts at 7th in the Rox lineup. Set career-highs in AB (420), runs (62), doubles (27), triples (10), extra-base hits (55), RBI (72), average (.290), OBP (.327) and SLG (.531). Colvin ranked in the top-5 on the team in the following categories (Min. 300 PA's): runs (4th), hits (4th), doubles (4th), triples (2nd), home runs (18, 3rd), XBH (2nd), RBI (2nd), batting average (5th) and SLG (1st). He ranked tied for 5th in the NL in triples, one of two Rockies with double-digit triples (Fowler 11 triples)...his .531 slugging percentage was the 7th-highest in the NL among players with at least 400 at bats. Set career-highs in hits and RBI on 6/28 vs. WAS by going 4-for-6 with a triple, a home run with 5 RBI...had two multiHR games, 6/9 vs. LAA and 7/6 at WAS...on 7/6 hit both HR off Strasburg. Tyler had three stints with the Cubs after breaking camp with the Major League club...he batted .150 (31-for-206) with eight doubles, three triples, six home runs and 20 RBI in 80 games for Chicago...Began the year with Chicago before he was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on 5/17... also saw time with the Cubs, 5/31-6/14 and 7/28 through the end of the season...Saw action primarily in right field, playing 44 games there (35 starts)...played 10 games in left field (four starts), eight games in center field (eight starts) and four games at first base (two starts)...Had a season-high three hits, 8/2 at PIT, going 3-for-5 with a double, home run and RBI...Started seven of the club's first 10 games, but was hitting just .113 (7-for-62) when he was optioned on 5/16...Started 4/5-6 at first base when Carlos Peña had an injury...his start on 4/5 was his first career appearance at first base...4/18 vs. SD hit a walk-off, 10th-inning pinch-double to give Chicago the 1-0 victory...Recalled to Chicago, 5/31, after 12 games with Iowa...hit .260 (13-for-50) with five doubles, two triples, one home run and eight RBI in his 12 games for the Iowa Cubs...Optioned back to Iowa on 6/14...was hitting .256 (52-for-203) with seven homers and 32 RBI in 50 games for Iowa when he was promoted, 7/28...In Pittsburgh on 8/3 was 3-for-5 and hit his third homer of the season, a 451-foot blast that one-hopped its way into the Allegheny River...was just the 29th ball to ever reach the Allegheny.

Tyler batted .254 with 20 home runs and 56 RBI in 135 games for Chicago, breaking camp with the big league club for the first time in his career, four years after he was selected by the club in the first round of the 2006 draft. ... His 20 homers are fourth-most by a Cubs rookie, surpassed only by Billy Williams (25 in 1961), Walt Moryn (23 in 1956) and Geovany Soto (23 in 2008). ...
