Appeared in five games out of the bullpen prior to being placed on the 15-day DL with a right triceps strain on April 16… Was later transferred to the 60-day DL May 19 and underwent elbow surgery to remove bone spurs... Returned to action on Aug. 1, spending the balance of the season with the Major League club. Surrendered runs in four of his 29 games this season. Allowed just one of his 22 inherited runners to score. Posted a scoreless innings streak of 13.2 IP from August 16-September 27, a span of 18 appearances. Began the season as the closer however appeared in only six games before being disabled with right shoulder inflammation... Did not pitch for the balance of the season...Following attempts to strengthen and rehab the shoulder unsucessfully, he underwent shoulder surgery on July 25...Blew his first two save opportunties before collecting two in his final two chances.

2004
Started season with El Paso, hitting safely in 11 of his first 13 games of the year at a .352 clip (19-54)... Had his first career four-hit game on May 4 vs. Arkansas, jumpstarting a career-high tying 10-game hitting streak in which he batted .444 (20-45) through May 15... He picked
up a hit in 11 of 12 contests from May 29-June 10, hitting
.413 (19-46) over that span... Included in that stretch was
his second career multi-homer game, which came on June
9 vs. Wichita, when he connected for a two-run blast and a
grand slam, totaling seven RBI, establishing a new career
single-game best... His season was ended on July 22... He
was disabled for the remainder of the season due to a left
shoulder subluxation... At the time of the injury, was leading
the club with 52 RBI and was second with 11 home runs...
he was also tied for eighth in the Texas League with 98 hits.
2003
Rated by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in
the Diamondbacks organization, continued his climb
through the system with stops at two levels... He tied a California League record with three home runs for Lancaster (A) in a win at High Desert May 23, finishing the contest 3-4 with six RBI... He also became the first player in franchise history
to homer three times in a single game...He was promoted to
El Paso (AA) on July 21 and hit .255 in 37 games...Following
the regular season, participated in the Arizona Fall League,
batting .250 over 26 games for Scottsdale with three home
runs, 10 RBI and nine extra-base hits which ranked 3rd on
the club... He was also rated by Baseball America as having
the3rd-best infield arm in the Fall League.

In his first year of pro ball at Missoula of the Pioneer League (Rookie-Advanced), ranked 3rd among league leaders with a .569 slugging percentage, tied for 3rd with 30 extra-base hits, ranked 4th with 19 doubles and tied for 5th
with nine home runs... His best month was August when he
hit .302 (32-for-106) with 26 runs, 12 doubles, six home runs
and 22 RBI while hitting safely in 21 of 27 games... He hit his
first pro home run on July 24 at Provo... Later in the season,
went deep in three straight games from Aug. 23-26.
