Spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Memphis after making his first career Opening Day roster for the Cardinals, playing in seven games total for St. Louis...Optioned to Memphis on April 8 after playing in two games for the Cardinals...Recalled from Memphis for a second stint on September 3...Acquired off waivers by the Houston Astros on November 20 before later being acquired by the Padres from the Astros in exchange for INF/OF Jesus Guzman on December 18.

Was the every day shortstop at Triple-A Memphis. Played 102 games at short and 13 at second for the Redbirds. Purchased from Memphis on 8/10 and made his MLB debut at PHI on 8/11, starting at second & going 0-3 with a fielding gem. Recorded his first Major League hit, a pinch-hit single, on 8/23 vs. HOU. Was optioned to Triple-A on 8/28. Recalled on 9/4 for a 2nd stint on the MLB roster,remaining until the end of the season. Started 3 games at second, and played at 2B in 7 of his 8 appearances. Was 2-for-7 as pinch-hitter for St. Louis, scoring once. Batted .272, 10 HR, 47 RBI with 23 2B's in 117 games at Memphis.Was 1st on the team with 12 sac bunts and hit a grand
slam on 7/21 vs. OKC. His 23 doubles ranked T2nd at Memphis, and his 10 home runs were one shy of a career high (11 in 2011). 2012 POSTSEASON: Was on the roster for the Cardinals in the Wild Card game vs.Atlanta, but did not play.
