Royce Spencer Clayton...he and his wife, Samantha Davies, have a son, Royce Jr. (1/10/04), and make their home in Scottsdale,, AZ...Royce is a 1988 graduate of St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey, CA...his wife, a track sprinter for the United Kingdom, participated in the 200-Meter race at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia...Clayton is the President/CEO of Isaac Charles AMERU, a high end American/European fashion line...he worked as an analyst for ESPN during the 1999 World Series...he has also dabbled in acting, making a cameo appearance on the television show, "Martial Law"...in 1997, he founded the Royce Clayton Foundation and has been involved in raising funds for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, hosting the annual Royce Clayton Celebrity Golf Classic to raise money for sickle cell research...he was honored with the Texas Rangers' Jim Sundberg Community Achievement Award in 1999...he was the Rangers' nominee in 1999 and 2000 for the Roberto Clemente Man of the Year Award...an avid golfer, Royce participated in the Fox Network's made-for-television golf tournament in conjunction with the Super Bowl last January in Jacksonville.

Spent most of 2007 with the Toronto Blue Jays, but closed the season in Boston after signing a minor league contract with the Red Sox on August 23...Appeared in 7 games for Triple-A Pawtucket before earning a September 1 call-up to Boston, where he remained through the end of the season...Had a .254 average with one homer and 12 RBI in 69 games with Toronto before being designated for assignment on August 3 and released on August 6...Saw action in 8 games for the Red Sox in September, including one start at shortstop...Boston is Clayton's 11th major league team, tying Todd Zeile for the most teams by a position player since 1900...RHP Mike Morgan holds the all-time record with 12 MLB teams.

On 7/13 was acquired from the Nationals in an 8-player deal that sent SS Felipe Lopez to Wsh...for the Reds made 38 starts at SS but just 9 starts in September...the Reds were his ninth team (SF, StL, Tex, WSox, Mil, Col, Ari, Wsh, Cin), tying the Major League record for a SS (Jack Glasscock, 1879-1895; Rey Sanchez, 1991-2005).

Royce compiled one of his best overall seasons as the starting shortstop for the Rockies...he had a career-high 160 hits, 95 runs, 48 multi-hit games and 24 sacrifice bunts...his sacrifice bunt total established a Colorado team record and paced the majors with the highest mark since Los Angeles' Jose Offerman posted 25 in 1993...Clayton led National League shortstops with a .986 fielding percentage, committing only 9 errors in 144 games to secure his first career fielding title and the Rockies' single-season record for a shortstop, surpassing Walt Weiss' .983 mark in 1997...Royce trailed only Anaheim's David Eckstein's .988 mark for the highest fielding percentage among big league shortstops...Clayton fashioned a 56-game errorless streak from July 20-September 30, and committed only 2 errors following the All-Star break, joining Omar Vizquel as the lone everyday shortstops to accomplish the feat...Clayton's .279 batting average was his third highest ever behind a .288 average in 1999 and a .282 clip in 1993...his 48 multi-hit affairs were second on the team to Todd Helton (53)...Royce legged out 15 bunt singles, ranking fourth in the majors as one of 8 players with at least 10 bunt hits...he swiped 10 bases in 15 attempts, second on the team behind Aaron Miles (12) and his highest total since stealing 10 bases in 2001 with the White Sox...Royce collected 36 doubles, 3 shy of his career best set in 1997...he flourished prior to the All-Star break, setting career marks with 96 hits, 64 runs scored and 28 doubles while batting .298, his highest average since a .301 clip in 1993...he owned a .300 average in back-to-back months for the first time in his career, batting .313 in April and .307 in May, only the third time he has posted at least two .300 months in a single-season (May, July and September of 1993; July and September of 2001)...his 12-game hitting streak from April 15-May 1 tied a career best set from July 24-August 5, 2000...he matched his career-best and a franchise record with 3 doubles on May 11 against the Pirates...he clubbed his 100th career home run in the opener of a May 13 twinbill against Pittsburgh, becoming the ninth active shortstop to reach the 100 home run plateau...his 100th blast came in his 1,635th career game and 5,752nd career at-bat.

Spent the entire season with Milwaukee, making 137 starts for the Brewers at shortstop...finished with a .977 fielding percentage (589/603), tied for sixth among major league shortstops...hit 11 home runs, third most in his career (14 in both 1999 and 2000)...drew a career high 49 walks, the most since he earned a combined 53 free passes in 1998...also had a career-most 10 intentional BB...grounded into 25 double plays, tying him with Jeff Bagwell for second in the NL...opened the year by posting the fourth best Brewer average in April, a .270 clip...he then had only 7 hits in 84 at-bats during the month of May (.083)...batted a combined .252 in the final four months of 2003.

Compiled a .989 fielding percentage breaking his own Chicago White Sox record set in 2001 ... mark was good for third in the Major Leagues behind Baltimorebs Mike Bordick (.998) and Clevelandbs Omar Vizquel (.990) ... had a career-best 69-game errorless streak (319 chances) snapped on May 17 ... struggled offensively early in the season but rallied from June 22 through the end of his season ... batted .331 with an on base percentage of .364 from June 22 on ... had a nine-game hitting streak from July 27-August 10 batting .441 (15-34) ... was released by Chicago on September 8.
