Ron Flores #47

In 1997 graduated from El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California...attended the University of Southern California, where as a freshman in 1998 he was a member of the Trojans' College World Series championship team...is the younger brother of Major League pitcher Randy Flores.

2008

Spent the season with the Cardinals' Class AAA affiliate in Memphis, where in 59 relief apps he went 7-4, 4.26 with 4 saves (63.1ip, 58k)... on 11/21 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract and was invited to 2009 Major League spring training camp.

2007

Began the season with Oakland's Triple-A Sacramento club where he held a 1.54 ERA (2 ER/11.2 IP) through April. Allowed earned runs in just three games through 5/14 before a recall to Oakland on 5/18. Through his first 8.0 IP (10 games), did not allow a run with the A's before allowing a single run in 1.1 IP at HOU on 6/12. Surrendered runs in four straight outings 6/22-7/2 and was optioned to Sacramento on 7/3. Finished August with Sacramento allowing only three earned runs in 13 games (9.2 IP).

2006

Flores started the season at Triple-A Sacramento and had five stints with the A's in 2006. In 25 relief appearances for Oakland, he had a 3.34 ERA and a .255 opponents batting average. He picked up his first Major League save by tossing a scoreless 10th inning in the final game of the season on Oct. 1. Flores pitched a career-high four shutout innings for his first win on June 29 at San Diego. Lefties hit .228 against Flores in 2006.

2005

Made his Major League debut with the A's and appeared in 11 games, all in relief, over three separate stints...compiled a 1.04 ERA and allowed a .235 opponents batting average without a decision...did not walk a batter in 8.2 innings...allowed a .154 (2 for 13) average against left-handed hitters and .286 (6 for 21) against right-handers...first batters faced were 2 for 11 (.182) and he allowed 1 of 7 (14.3%) inherited runners to score...was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on June 17 and made his Major League debut that night against Philadelphia...tossed a scoreless eighth inning (1 h, 1 so) and struck out the first batter he faced, Jim Thome...made a total of four appearances during his first stint and did not allow a run (3.1 ip, 1 h, 2 so) before he was optioned to Sacramento on July 14...returned on August 27 and pitched in two games at Baltimore (2.0 ip, 5 h, 1 r, 1 er, 1 so) before he was optioned again on August 29...allowed his first run on August 28 at Camden Yards on a Melvin Mora home run...was brought back again on September 9 and did not allow a run in five outings (3.1 ip, 2 h, 3 so)...tossed a season high 1.1 innings and retired all four batters that he faced on September 25 against Texas...spent the balance of the season with Sacramento where he was 5-3 with a 2.39 ERA and three saves in 52 relief appearances...the ERA was the lowest of his career...struck out 66 in 60.1 innings, an average of 9.85 per nine innings...now has 370 strikeouts in 346.0 innings in his minor league career, an average of 9.62 per nine innings...led the River Cats in games pitched (52)...allowed a .213 opponents batting average which broke down to .207 (17 for 82) against left-handed hitters and .216 (29 for 134) with four of his five home runs against right-handers...opponents average dropped to .179 (12 for 67) with runners in scoring position...had a 3.16 ERA (9 er in 25.2 ip) and .232 (23 for 99) opponents batting average in 24 games at home compared to a 1.82 ERA (7 er in 34.2 ip) and .197 (23 for 117) opponents average in 28 games on the road...tossed two or more innings in 11 of his 52 appearances...season high was 2.2 innings on June 4 at Salt Lake and July 21 at Portland...got off to a slow start, posting a 6.75 ERA (7 er in 9.1 ip) over his first nine games...did not allow a run over his next seven outings (7.2 ip) and posted a 2.05 ERA (6 er in 26.1 ip) over his final 22 games from April 29 to June 17 when he was brought up to Oakland...after he was sent back to Sacramento on July 14, he did not allow an earned run over his first 16 outings (18.1 ip, 9 h, 2 r, 7 bb, 16 so)...then allowed at least one run in three of his final five regular season games at Triple-A (3 er in 6.1 ip, 4.26 ERA)...made one post-season appearance for Sacramento on September 7 (1.0 ip, 1 h, 2 so) before he was brought back to Oakland.

2004

Appeared in a team leading 55 games in his first full season at Triple-A Sacramento and was 4-3 with a 3.83 ERA and one save...struck out 55 in 54.0 innings...yielded a .271 opponents batting average which included a .280 (35 for 125) mark against right-handers and .267 (24 for 90) against left-handers...opponents average dropped to .257 with runners in scoring position, including .200 with RISP and two outs...tossed a season high 3.0 innings on April 27 at Los Vegas but allowed two runs and took the loss...compiled his best ERA in the month of May, posting a 2.31 mark (3 er in 11.2 ip) in 12 appearances...struck out a season high four on May 3 against Fresno...recorded his only save of the season on August 18 against Portland...made three post season appearances for Sacramento and was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA (2.2 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 1 er, 3 so).

2003

Started the season at Double-A Midland and was 3-2 with six saves and a 2.88 ERA in 39 relief appearances when he was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento on August 2...went 2-0 with a 6.59 ERA in 12 relief appearances with the River Cats and was a combined 5-2 with six saves and a 3.58 ERA in 51 games, all in relief...struck out 76 in 73.0 innings and walked just 18 for a strikeout to walk ratio of 4.2 to 1...allowed a .223 opponents batting average, including .204 at Midland...overall, allowed a .202 (22 for 109) mark against left-handed hitters and .238 (38 for 160) against right-handers...allowed all six of his home runs off righties...compiled a 1.20 ERA in nine outings in April...allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks in 0.2 innings in his first outing with Sacramento on August 2 and posted a 2.08 ERA and .222 opponents batting average in his other 11 outings with the River Cats...made one postseason appearance for Sacramento (1.1 ip, 1 h, 1 so).

2002

Spent the entire year at Single-A Visalia and was 8-6 with 11 saves and a 3.25 ERA in 53 appearances, all in relief...had career highs in wins, losses, saves, innings pitched (80.1) and strikeouts (92)...led the Oaks and ranked fifth in the A's farm system in saves...ranked fourth in the California League in games pitched and was also fourth among relievers in walks per nine innings (1.57)...walked just 16 for a strikeout to walk ratio of 5.8 to 1...allowed a .281 opponents batting average which included .293 (24 for 82) by left-handers and .277 (66 for 238) by right-handers...allowed six of his seven home runs against righties...opponents average jumped to .330 with runners in scoring position...did not allow a run in two postseason appearances for the Oaks (3.0 ip, 2 h, 2 bb, 3 so).

2001

Spent his first full professional season at Single-A Modesto and was 5-2 with six saves and a 2.86 ERA in 47 relief appearances...led his team in games pitched and saves...struck out 71 in 66.0 innings...allowed just four home runs or one every 16.5 innings...allowed a .217 opponents batting average which included a .209 (14 for 67) mark against left-handed hitters and .220 (39 for 177) against right-handers...opponents average dropped to .190 with runners in scoring position.

2000

Made his professional debut at Single-A Vancouver of the short season Northwest League and was 1-1 with a 5.11 ERA in 13 relief appearances...allowed a .296 opponents batting average...did not allow an earned run in seven outings (5.0 innings) at home and had an 8.59 ERA on the road...allowed five runs in his first two outings but had a 2.79 ERA after that.
