Romulo Ignacio Sanchez...Originally signed by Dodgers scouts Camilo Pascual and Doug Carpenter...Born April 28, 1984 in a town in Lara State, Venezuela, on the Morere River, a branch of the Tocuyo River, about 54 miles southwest of Barquisimeto...Acquired by the Yankees from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor league RHP Eric Hacker on May 16, 2009...signed through the 2011 season.
2011
Designated for assignment by the Yankees at the end of spring training and sold to the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Japan Pacific League where he posted a 4.96 ERA (16.1-IP, 9-ER) in 15 apps and was teammates with former Rays infielder Akinori Iwamura.
2010
Allowed 1H in 4.1IP in two scoreless relief appearances over two stints with the Yankees (5/7-10 and 9/17-10/3)...Was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on 5/7...made one relief appearance in 5/9 loss at Boston, allowing 1H in 3.2 scoreless IP (1BB, 3K)...was optioned back to Scranton/WB on 5/10...Returned to the Yankees as a September call-up on 9/17...made his second-and final-appearance in 9/25 loss vs. Boston, tossing 0.2 scoreless IP (2BB, 2K)...Went 10-8 with a 3.97 ERA in 31 games (14 starts) with Scranton/WB, holding opponents to a .232 batting average (88-for-380)...Worked exclusively as a reliever from 7/5 through the end of the season, allowing just 5ER in 25.0IP (1.80 ERA)...overall as a reliever with SWB, went 7-1 with a 1.69 ERA, striking out 37 batters in 32.0IP...posted a 3-7 record with a 4.98 ERA as a starter...Following the season, pitched with Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League, going 1-2 with one save and a 6.89 ERA (15.2IP, 12ER) in 19 relief appearances...Did not record a decision in three spring training relief appearances with the Yankees, allowing 1ER in 4.0IP (2.25 ERA, 4H, 2BB, 3K, 1HR).
