Robert James (Rob) Johnson graduated from Butte Central High School in Montana...Attended Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo, CA, where he batted .380 and .492 during his two years...Hit .342 his one year at the University of Houston...A sister, Kelly, played basketball at Illinois State and presently is the head prep coach at the Air Force Academy, and another sister, Carley, played basketball at St. Mary's College in Kansas.
2011
Spent the entire year with the Padres, making 54 starts and playing in 67 games...Fashioned a 3.26 catchers ERA, the fifth-best among major league catchers with 50 or more starts and third-best among National League catchers...Tied his career-high with three hits, twice: April 16 at Houston and July 20 at Florida...Knocked in three runs for the third time in his career, August 6 at Pittsburgh...The last time was on July 3, 2009, Seattle at Boston...Over his first 13 games after the All-Star break, from July 14-August 6, he hit .268 (11-41) with four doubles, one triple and eight RBI...Hit a pinch-hit two-run double on July 31 at Colorado, the first pinch-hit of his major league career...Compiled a .271 (13-48) batting mark in July...Hit a career-best three home runs.
