Married to Tomasa, the couple has three children, son Randall and daughters Josie and Jordyn...A member of the MLB Players'Association (MLBPA) Executive Board since 1998 and was a player representative for the MLBPA for six seasons...1989 graduate of Shanley (ND) High School where he played football, basketball and baseball...Attended Lakota (ND) High School for three years, also playing football, basketball and baseball...Named All-Conference third baseman 1986-89 and won three state titles...Led North Dakota in scoring during his senior basketball season and was All-Conference in football for three years...Attended the University of North Dakota where he was a linebacker...Transferred to Kishwaukee (IL) Junior College to play baseball in 1991...Transferred to Stanford University in 1992 and led the team in wins and strikeouts...Pitched for the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team...Graduated from Stanford in 1993 with a degree in economics...Named 1999 USA Baseball Alumnus of the Year...Designates time and effort in support of D.A.R.E. and M.A.D.D.

He posted a 2.43 ERA in his 18 relief appearances (29.2ip, 8er) and a 13.50 ERA in his two starts (5.1ip, 8er). Started on 6/20 versus Detroit (a 10-1 loss) and 6/25 at Kansas City (a 6-0 loss). ... Went 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA in seven late-season starts for Milwaukee after he went 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA in eight relief appearances...Began the season with Triple A Nashville where he compiled a 9-3 mark with a 4.13 ERA (60 er/130.2 ip) in 21 starts...left Nashville in the midst of a five game winning streak...contract was purchased by Milwaukee on July 27...made his Brewers debut in relief on July 28 vs. San Francisco tossing one scoreless frame...earned his first win in a Brewers uniform in his next outing on August 3 at New York (N) working one shutout inning leading the Brewers to a 6-4 win over the Mets...went 1-0 with a 3.52 ERA in eight relief appearances for Milwaukee...moved into the starting rotation in late August...went 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA in seven starts for the Brewers...worked season-best seven frames in a pair of starts: Sept. 11 vs. Houston (W, 4-2, MIL) and Sept. 16 at HOU (ND, 2-1, HOU)...struck out season-best eight batters in his final start of the season on September 27 vs. Cincinnati...earned the win leading the Brewers to a 6-2 victory...posted a 2-1 mark alongside a 2.53 ERA in seven appearances, five starts at Miller Park compared to a 1-0 clip and a 2.12 ERA in eight games, two starts on the road...logged a 1.93 ERA during the day (four outings, two starts)...went 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA in six September starts.

Split the season between Double A New Britain of the Eastern League and Triple A Rochester of the International League, both affiliates of the Minnesota Twins, and Triple A Oklahoma, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers in the Pacific Coast Leage...Went 1-2 with a 4.94 ERA in five starts with New Britain before his promotion to Rochester...Made one start with Rochester pitching a complete game (7.0 IP) shutout allowing just four hits and striking out a pair...Released by Minnesota on June 2, signed a Minor League contract with the Texas Rangers on June 10 and was assigned to Oklahoma...Posted a 1-4 mark with 9.00 ERA in six starts for the Red Hawks.
