Diogenes Ramon Ortiz... Graduated from 8th Intermedian High School in the Dominican Republic... Is an experienced barber and owns a barbershop in his hometown of Cotui in the Dominican Republic... Was honoured by the Santa Ana City Council in 2001 for his efforts in the Santa Ana Police Department's holiday celebration that benefitted 10,000 people.

Released by the San Francisco Giants on March 26 and signed by the Yankees to a minor league contract on April 4...Spent the season with Scranton-Wilkes Barre of the International League (AAA)...Led the club in wins (13), IP (169.1) and ERA (3.45) in his 27 starts...Was his first full season in the minor leagues since 1998.

Spent his fourth full-season with Anaheim...made five starts in April going 1-3 with a 9.28 ERA...was moved to the bullpen where he spent the majority of the year...made his first career appearance out of the bullpen on May 12 at New York (AL)...recorded six strikeouts vs. the Yankees on May 20, the most strikeouts by an Angels reliever in 2004...returned to the rotation on June 19 when Aaron Sele was placed on the disabled list...made two starts going 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA (11.1 ip, 1 er) before returning to the bullpen...tossed a season-high 5.0 innings out of the bullpen, July 3 vs. Los Angeles...pitched 3.0-or-more innings in six relief appearances and posted a 0.81 ERA in those appearances...made one postseason appearance in relief during the Angels 9-3 loss vs. Boston in Game 1 of the American League Division Series...traded to Cincinnati in exchange for pitcher Dustin Mosley, December 14.
