Martinez...he and his wife, Neyzza, have one son, Giancarlo (9/19/06)...graduated from Escuela Superior Catolica High School in Bayamon, PR in 1990...graduated from Vernon Regional Junior College in Texas in 1992...following the 1997 season, hit .297 (58-for-195) with 35 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples and 19 RBI for San Juan in the Puerto Rican Winter League...batted .290 (42-for-145) with 18 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 14 RBI for San Juan in the Puerto Rican Winter League following the 1998 season.

2007

•Veteran infielder appeared in 67 games for the Dodgers, including 29 starts, while playing all four infield positions
•Posted 25 hits and 27 RBI on the season, becoming just the 25th player since 1871 to have more RBI in a season than hits, according to retrosheet.org...the last players to accomplish that feat were Frank Thomas (26, 23) and Keith Ginter (25, 22) in 2005...only one other Dodger appears on that list, as Billy Ashley had 22 hits and 25 RBI in 1996 (min. 20 RBI)
•Drove in a run in six consecutive games in which he played from Aug. 19-27, tying Matt Kemp for the Dodgers'season high
•Started in place of Jeff Kent on Aug. 19 and went 2-for-4, including the game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning...drove in a season-high three runs that afternoon

2006

Came to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee after signing a Minor League contract on Feb. 28, and was the only NRI to crack the Opening Day roster, but one of seven who eventually played for the team during the season. Appeared in 82 games for the Dodgers, batting .278 with two homers and 24 RBIs. Made 27 starts at second base, five at third, three at shortstop and one in right field. Also played one game at first base. Batted .339 (19-for-56) with runners in scoring position and .364 with RISP and two outs. Was 12-for-28 (.429) in close and late situations. Had a career-high five RBIs on May 29 at Atlanta, slugging a three-run homer and two run-scoring singles. In the month of May, batted .452 (14-for-31) with a homer and eight RBIs, and before the All-Star break, batted .328 (40-for-122) with 20 RBIs in 54 games. Made his Dodger debut on April 5 at second base and went 1-for-3 when Jeff Kent was forced from the game after getting hit in the triceps muscle. Has appeared in the postseason four times (2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006), including reaching the World Series with the 2002 Giants. He was 1-for-3 with a double in the playoffs.

2005

Split time between the Detroit and Philadelphia organizations in 2005 ... Played in 52 games combined with the Tigers and Phillies and hit .277 with a home run and 14 RBI ... Appeared at all four infield positions: shortstop (15 games), first base (12 games), second base (five games) and third base (four games) ... Batted .323 (10-for-31) with runners in scoring position.

2004

Martinez appeared in 73 games at shortstop (57 starts), 23 games at third and 17 at second. He was 2-for-11 as a pinch-hitter. The versatile infielder was sidelined from Sept. 18 to the end of the season because of a strained left groin. On June 15 against Houston, he homered and hit the game-winning two-out, two-run single in the ninth.

2003

Ramon appeared in 108 games during his first season with the Cubs and hit .283 with 3 homers and 34 RBI.

saw action in 42 games at second base (33 starts), 37 games at third base (22 starts), 32 games at shortstop (18 starts) and 2 games at first base.

with the Giants, he hit .264 with 5 homers and 19 RBI ... in his first start of the season April 15 vs. Houston, he went 3-for-4 with his first M.L. homer -- a 2-run shot off Doug Henry.

appeared in 18 consecutive games from July 31-August 20, going 20-for-67 (.299) with 4 doubles, 3 homers and 11 RBI.

in the August 20 affair at Milwaukee, he went 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored and a homer ... in that contest, though, he strained his left groin -- which sent him to the disabled list (through September 5).

Spent most of his first campaign in the Giants' organization as the starting shortstop at Shreveport (AA) ... also appeared in 18 games for Phoenix (AAA).

was a Texas League all-star at Shreveport, batting .319 with 32 doubles, 5 homers and 54 RBI.

hit .281 during a trip to Phoenix June 25-July 19 ... returned to the Triple-A club for the Pacific Coast League playoffs -- and went 12-for-32 with 2 homers and 6 RBI in 7 games.

1996

Split his final year in Kansas City's organization between Omaha (AAA) and Wichita (AA).

opened the year at the Triple-A level, batting .253 in 85 games ... was sent to Wichita July 31, where he hit .344 in 26 contests.

Led all Texas League second basemen with a .984 fielding percentage at Wichita (AA) ... batted .275 in 103 games with 3 homers and 51 RBI.

1994

Spent most of the season at Wilmington (A), batting .268 in 90 games -- including 85 appearances at second base ... also had a brief 6-game stint with Rockford (A).

1993

Played for both Gulf Coast (Rookie) and Wilmington (A) during his first professional campaign, appearing in 61 contests.
