Opened the campaign with the Astros before being dealt to St. Louis on August 19 in exchange for RHP Dan Carpenter...Collected his 1,000th career hit on May 12 at St. Louis, a single off Kyle Lohse.

Logged 1st season as everyday player, enduring ups and downs but leading club with 156 games, 20 HRs and 81 RBI...made 146 starts at trio of positions (70 in LF, 67 at 3B, 9 at 1B)...hit safely in 100 games overall, including 32 multi-hit efforts...began season as SF's starting left fielder in place of injured Barry Bonds...in fact, became 1st Giants player other than Bonds since Mike Felder in 1992 to make Opening Day start in left field, getting nod April 5 vs. LA...by season's end, made more starts in left than any other Giant (Moises Alou logged 65)...SF was 35-32 (.522) when he started at hot corner, and 6-3 (.667) when he was in starting lineup at 1B...was at his best offensively early on, ranking 3rd in NL with 22 RBI in 23 April games...22 RBI also established career-high for any month, and was tied for 5th most ever by San Francisco Giant in March/April...posted 10-game hitting streak April 18-27...slugged 3rd career grand slam April 15 at Colorado (off Jamey Wright), finishing with career-high 5 RBI in SF's 13-6 victory...produced 5th career multi-HR game May 25 vs. LA, belting pair of clouts and driving in 4 runs as Giants rolled to 10-2 triumph...established career highs with 5 hits and 4 runs (most by Giant in 2005) Aug. 16 in Cincinnati, falling HR shy of cycle...went 5-for-5 with 2 2Bs and 3B, as SF defeated Reds by 10-8 count...however, ended season in 8-for-57 (.140) spell over his last 15 games.

In 1st season playing over 100 games, set career highs in nearly every offensive category while emerging as one of SF's top threats...established career standards with 144 games, .276 avg., 72 runs, 139 hits, 33 2Bs, 22 HRs, 84 RBI and 5 stolen bases, while equaling high-water mark with 3 3Bs...played in more contests than any other Giant besides Barry Bonds (147) and Marquis Grissom (145), while tying for 2nd on club for HRs and ranking 3rd for RBI...led club in doubles, paving way for Giants to set franchise record for 2-baggers (314)...made 109 starts, including opening assignments in 106 of SF's last 148 games (beginning April 19)...made starts at 1st base (58 games), 3rd base (37) and shortstop (14), with Giants logging impressive 64-45 (.587) mark in those contests...was also effective off bench, as he was 3rd on SF for pinch hits (6-for-22, .273) and 2nd with 4 RBI in role...ranked 2nd on club with 40 multi-hit games...despite starting at 3 different positions and also logging 2 games each in both left and right field, committed just 13 errors in 765 total chances (.983 fielding pct.)...in fact, made just 5 miscues in 498 chances (.990 pct.) over his last 82 games in field...in 62 games following All-Star Break, hit .306 (63-for-206) with 38 runs, 18 2Bs, 3B, 9 HRs and 33 RBI...matched career high with 10-game hitting streak Aug. 25-Sept. 8, going 14-for-41 (.341)...belted pair of solo homers Aug. 20 vs. Mets, marking 3rd multi-homer game of season and 4th of also hammered pair of clouts May 12 vs. Philadelphia and June 7 at Colorado...connected for 2nd career grand slam in dramatic style Sept. 25 vs. LA, belting 2-out, game-winning shot in 8th inning (off Yhency Brazoban) that snapped 5-5 tie...finished 4-for-5 on afternoon, matching career high in hits and career best in RBI (4).

Enjoyed most productive big league campaign, establishing career highs in nearly every offensive category, including games (95), at-bats (235), runs (31), hits (58), 3Bs (3), HRs (16) and RBI (48)...in fact, averaged HR every 14.7 at-bats, ratio that would have ranked 7th in NL with enough ABs to qualify...showed penchant for delivering big knock, as evidenced by 2-out, game-winning single off All-Star closer Keith Foulke to produce 7-6, 10-inning victory over Oakland June 28...also belted walk-off, 3-run homer off Jay Witasick to defeat San Diego 5-2 July 25...proved very versatile, making starts at 3 different positions...logged opening assignments at 3B (28 times), LF (11) and 1B (9)...made 1st career starts in LF May 24-26 at Coors Field, filling in for injured Barry Bonds...also made 1st career appearance at 1B with start at position June 12 at White Sox...in 48 starts overall, hit at .239 clip (44-for-184) with 4 2Bs, 12 HRs and 37 RBI...season took off during 4-game series at Colorado May 23-26...despite collecting career-high 4 hits April 9 vs. San Diego, went to Denver homerless and carrying .200 avg. Spent majority of year at triple-A Fresno prior to being recalled to San Francisco Sept. 1...was named to Pacific Coast League All-Star team...in 128 games for Grizzlies, hit .298 (150-for-503) with career-highs in runs (85), 2Bs (34), HRs (33) and RBI (105)...played 121 games at 3B...HR total led all Giants minor leaguers, while ranking 3rd in RBI and 7th in average...ranked among PCL leaders in HRs (tied for 3rd), RBI (4th) and extra base hits (2nd, 69)...collected 1st 2 ML hits Sept. 7 vs. Padres (1st was 1B off Carlos Almanzar), after making ML debut Sept. 5 vs. Phillies...shared Fresno Player of Month honors for August with Chad Zerbe...following season, played for both Grand Canyon of Arizona Fall League and Pollos of Dominican Winter League.

Spent entire campaign with Double-A Shreveport...posted career-high 77 RBI, surpassing previous mark of 56 set in 1997 with Single-A Bakersfield...also established new career mark with 6 3Bs...hit 14 home runs and had 24 2Bs on year, falling just 1 shy of career-bests set in 1997...however, .253 average was 2nd lowest of 6-year pro career...finished season on strong note, hitting .337 (35-for-104) in 28 games during August, earning Captains' Player of Month honors...had 2 2Bs, 3B, 5 HR, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored in award-winning month...raised his average 24 points during Aug. (from .228 on July 31 to .252 on Aug. 31)...hit safely in 36 of his final 45 games played, going 53-for-174 (.305) with 5 2Bs, 4 3Bs, 7 HRs and 27 RBI...raised batting average 36 points during stretch, from .217 on July 17 to season-ending .253...final .253 average matched highest mark of year...belted pair of home runs April 10 at Tulsa (TEX), finishing 2-for-6 with season-high 6 RBI...only other multi-homer effort came Aug. 1 vs. El Paso (MIL)...went 2-for-4 with 5 RBI on contest.
1998
Got off to slow start in 1st season at Shreveport before playing well enough to earn late-season promotion to Triple-A Fresno...in 100 games for Captains, hit .264 (96-for-364) with 23 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 12 HRs and 50 RBI...was hitting .209 (18-for-86) in his 1st 25 games before going on Disabled List with sprained right ankle...was disabled from May 2-June 9...hit .312 (67-for-215) with 17 2Bs, 10 HRs and 37 RBI over his 1st 56 games back from Disabled List through Aug. 10...earned promotion to Fresno Sept. 1 and appeared in 3 regular season games for Grizzlies...hit .429 (3-for-7) with 2B, HR and 3 RBI...started 2 games at 3B for Fresno in PCL playoffs and went hitless in 9 at-bats with RBI.
1997
Spent full season at single-A Bakersfield, appearing in 135 of team's 140 games...established career-highs in games, at-bats (515), runs (59), hits (140), doubles (25), home runs (14) and walks (23)...hit .283 (121-for-427) with 12 HRs and 49 RBI in 111 contests over final 4 months of campaign...was honored by Giants' organization as Player of the Month for Bakersfield in August, batting .289 (33-for-117) with 5 HRs, 13 RBI and 17 runs scored in 29 games...played exclusively at 3rd base.

Played his 2nd straight season at single-A Burlington, appearing in 93 contests while batting .265 with 5 HRs and 36 RBI...homers were his 1st as professional, having been held without clout in 232 at-bats over previous 2 seasons...served as club's primary 3rd baseman (91 games), while also seeing action at 1st base (2 contests).
