Signed as a free agent on Sept. 9, and made his Marlins debut that day at Philadelphia, retiring all three batters he faced. Previously, he hadn't pitched since Aug. 29 against the Diamondbacks. The veteran right-hander lived up to his reputation as one of the game's busiest relievers as he led the Major Leagues with a career-high 86 appearances, which ranks second on the Dodgers' all-time single-season list behind Mike Marshall (106 in 1974)... this came one season after topping the American League with 80 games pitched for Toronto... his previous career high was 82 appearances for the Blue Jays in 1998... was 5-4 with one save and a 2.70 ERA in 76.2 innings... tied Minnesota's J.C. Romero for the Major League lead with 33 holds... surrendered just one home run all season, that to the Chicago Cubs' Fred McGriff on May 3... allowed just five of 26 inherited runners to score... after going 0- 2 with a 5.40 ERA in 14 April games, was 5-2 with a save and a 2.13 ERA the rest of the season... in final 17 outings, was 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA (2 ER/14.0 IP)... in 13 June appearances, posted a 0.87 ERA, yielding just one earned run, five hits and one walk in 13 outings, covering 10.1 innings... pitched a 1-2-3 inning in his Dodger debut on April 3 vs. San Francisco... hurled season-high 2.1 innings, yielding no hits and striking out three, on April 4 vs. San Francisco... in seven appearances from April 16-25, gave up no runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings... did not allow a run in 11 straight outings from May 5-24, a span of 12.0 innings... in 16 games from June 3-July 7, was 1-0 and did not surrender a run, giving up seven hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts in 12.2 innings...
