Made the Royals' Opening Day roster for the second straight year, but made just 7 April appearances for K.C. before spending rest of season at Triple-A Omaha...posted no record and a 9.45 ERA (6.2 ip, 7 er) in his 7 major league outings...allowed runs in 4 of 7 outings as 6 of 9 inherited runners scored...was optioned to Omaha on April 23...went 1-0, 4.91 (22.0 ip, 12 er) in 16 appearances at Triple-A...missed over 2 months with a broken finger on his right hand...allowed 2 runs in 7.1 innings over his first 4 outings before leaving May 7 game with a finger injury...sustained the injury as he delivered a 3-2 pitch to Brad Nelson in 8th inning on May 7 vs. Nashville...was placed on the disabled list May 8 with a fractured right middle finger, near the top of his knuckle close to the fingernail...returned on July 24 and allowed runs in each of his first 5 appearances after coming off DL...did not allow a run over his final 7 games and 8.0 innings beginning Aug. 12...refused an outright assignment to Omaha on Oct. 5, making him a free agent.
2004
Was 2-3 with a 4.26 ERA in 43 games for the Royals...allowed 40 hits and 21
earned runs in 44.1 innings of work...Led the American League and ranked 3rd in the Majors in inherited runs scored
percentage (14.3 percent)...allowed just 5 of 35 runs to score...only Houston's
Brad Lidge (2/30) and Colorado's Javier Lopez (6/46) were better...Compiled a 3.10 ERA in his 1st 27 outings (29.0 IP, 10 ER) and a 6.46 ERA in
his last 16 games (15.1 IP, 16 H, 11 ER)...Pitched 9 scoreless outings in his 1st 10 appearances (9.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER) for
a 0.93 ERA...Earned his 1st win of the season (2nd career) at Toronto on May 3 in KC's
10-inning, 3-2 victory...stranded 3 runners in the 9th inning with the game
tied, 2-2...Earned his 1st career save in KC's 7-6 win at Texas on May 18...entered the game
in the 9th with a 1-run lead and allowed 1 hit...Placed on the 15-day DL on Aug. 14 with a left oblique tear and missed the
remainder of the season...was transferred to the 60-day DL on Sept. 17.
2003
Had his contract purchased from Omaha on June 10...began the season with AA Wichita and was 1-0 with a
3.60 ERA and 3 saves in games with the Wranglers...at AAA Omaha he was 0-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 8 outings with 2
saves.
Was optioned back to Omaha on June 15 without throwing an inning for the Royals.
Recalled from Omaha on June 30 between games 1 and 2 of a doubleheader with Cleveland.
Finished with a 1-1 record and a 4.15 ERA in 19 games for Kansas City, allowing 10 ER in 21.2 innings
of work.
Pitched a career-high 3.2 innings on June 30 against the Indians...didn't allow a run, gave up a hit
and struck out 3.
Picked up the 1st win of his career on July 4 against Detroit when he threw 1.1 scoreless innings and
struck out 2 in KC's 9-8 victory.
Did not surrender a run from June 30 - July 18, a span of 6 appearances...threw 9.0 innings during
that stretch and gave up just 4 hits while striking out 9.
Surrendered a 458-foot home run to Frank Thomas in the Royals 13-9 victory at Chicago on Aug. 4...it
was Thomas' 2,000th career hit.
Was optioned to Omaha on Aug. 5 to make room for Julius Matos who was recalled after Michael Tucker
was injured when he fouled a ball off of his leg.
Recalled from Omaha on Aug. 6 when Michael Tucker went on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right
leg.
Optioned to Omaha on Aug. 8 when Mike Sweeney was reinstated off of the DL...was recalled from Omaha
on Aug. 31 and would have been on KC's potential post season roster.
2002
Began the season with Omaha (AAA) and was recalled by the Royals on April 10.
Made his Major League debut at Cleveland on April 12 (0.1 IP, 1 H)...made 5 appearances for the Royals and did not figure in a decision...compiled a 9.00 ERA in 5.0 innings of work.
Was designated for assignment on June 8 and claimed off waivers by New York on June 12...finished out the season with Columbus (AAA) where he went 2-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
2001
Field logged a 4-2 record with 19 saves and a 1.48 ERA in 52 relief outings for Wichita (AA).
Led the Royals Minor Leagues and finished 3rd in the Texas League in saves...posted the lowest ERA in club history for pitchers with at least 70 innings pitched.
Put together a streak of 15 straight outings without allowing an earned run from April 29-June 12, a span of 21.0 innings.
