Nathan Louis Bump
Nathan Louis Bump... graduated from Towanda High School (PA) and attended Penn State... was an All-American for the Nittany Lions, as he left the school as their all-time career leader in starts, innings pitched, wins and strikeouts... tossed a no-hitter as a freshman and earned Big 10 Pitcher of the Year honors as a sophomore... he and his wife, Cheryl, have one daughter, Natalie (5/17/04).
2005
Began season with Florida, going 0-3 with 3.51 ERA in 21 games before being optioned to Albuquerque (AAA) on June 7... Made one appearance with Albuquerque, a start on June 13 at Nashville, threw 5.0 innings, allowing one run in a 3-2 win... Recalled to Florida on June 17... appeared in 10 games following recall and was 0-0 with 5.11 ERA before going on the DL on July 17 for remainder of the season with inflammation in right shoulder.
2004
Completed his second Major League season, making a career-high 50 appearances (two starts) and posting a 2-4 record with one save and a 5.01 ERA... allowed 46 runs (41 ER) on 86 hits in 73.2 innings, a .297 batting average against... earned a spot on the Major League roster out of spring training and appeared in 25 games with the Marlins before being optioned to AAA Albuquerque on June 16... following three appearances for the Isotopes, returned to Florida on July 2 and made 25 more outings for the Fish... began his season with a career-high five straight scoreless outings, covering 4.2 innings... suffered his first Major League loss on April 25 vs. Atlanta, in his 40th career Major League outing; allowed three runs on two hits in 0.1 innings to take the defeat... made his first career Major League start on July 20 at New York (NL) and allowed a then career-high six runs on five hits in 2.1 innings... collected his first Major League save on July 26 vs. Philadelphia, when he tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in an 11-3 home victory over the Phillies... allowed two hits and a walk, while fanning three in the outing.
2003
Made 32 appearances with the Marlins, all in relief, posting a 4-0 record with a 4.71 ERA, allowing 21 runs (19 ER) in 36.1 innings... recalled from Albuquerque on June 28, replacing the injured Kevin Olsen... allowed opponents to hit .248 (.229 by left-handers and .258 by right-handers)... made his first Major League appearance on June 28 at Boston, allowing two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings, as he collected his first Major League victory... became the sixth Marlin and second Florida reliever to post a victory in his first Major League game... went 6-5 with a 4.43 ERA in 15 games with Albuquerque, allowing 42 ER in 85.1 innings with a .267 batting average... went 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA in his last four AAA starts (10 ER in 23.1 IP).
2002
Compiled a 7-6 record with a 3.38 ERA in 20 games (all starts) in his third full season at Portland (AA)... finished second in the Eastern League with three complete games, fourth in ERA and fourth in batting average allowed by a starter (.227)... made his first start, April 9 at New Haven, and then missed six weeks (April 12-May 21) with right arm inflammation... Threw 9.0 innings in a win vs. Binghamton on July 21, allowing 3 runs (2 ER); allowed two hits in the game, the first nine-inning CG two-hitter in Sea Dog franchise history... also owns the only complete-game one-hitter in franchise history (6/26/00 vs. Binghamton)... pitched for Mesa in the Arizona Fall League, and went 2-2 with a 3.53 ERA in 10 games.
2001
Won four of nine decisions with a 5.27 ERA in 11 games (eight starts) for Portland... allowed one run on five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in 12.0 innings over his first two starts, collecting victories over Trenton on April 11 and New Haven on April 17... made his final start on June 3 vs. Akron and was placed on the DL on June 5 with right shoulder tendinitis... underwent a right shoulder arthroscopy on July 6 to repair a torn labrum.
2000
Began the season with a 2-7 record and a 6.99 ERA over his first 14 starts... followed that by posting a 3-0 record over his next four starts, with a 1.44 ERA (four ER in 25.0 IP)... began the streak with a complete game one-hitter (7.0 IP) on June 26 vs. Binghamton, fanning a season-high nine batters... went 6-2 over his final 12 games, notching a 2.16 ERA and three complete games... went on the DL on August 26 with right shoulder tendinitis, ending his season.
1999
Split the season between Shreveport (AA) and Portland (AA), following his trade to the Marlins on July 24... combined for a 6-16 record with a 4.19 ERA in 25 games (all starts)... went 4-10 with a 3.31 ERA in Shreveport... was 0-4 with a 4.00 ERA over his first seven games and 0-4 with a 5.92 ERA over his final four contests... struck out a season-high eight in a 9.0-inning CG shutout win on June 18 vs. Tulsa.
1998
Began his professional career with Salem-Keizer in the Class A Northwest League... promoted to San Jose following his first two games with Salem and won six of his seven decisions with a 1.75 ERA in 11 starts... fanned 61 batters in 61.2 innings... was named the Giants' Organizational Player of the Month in August, pitching for San Jose.
