Michael John Mahoney
Michael John Mahoney... Is a 1991 graduate of Dowling (West Des Moines, IA) High School where he was a first-team All-State shortstop... Also played football and ran track (state qualifier in the high jump)... Received a psychology degree from Creighton University in 1995, where he was an All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in baseball... While at Creighton, was converted from a shortstop to catcher by manager Jim Hendry... Married with one child.
2005
Split the season between Memphis (AAA) and St. Louis making three tours with the ML club. Appeared in 26 games, starting 21 behind the plate... Recorded his first STL hit on July 17 vs. HOU with a single off Roger Clemens... His last ML hit was September 12, 2002 for CHC at CIN... Was recalled for the first time from Triple-A Memphis on May 2 and appeared in one game before being optioned on May 13... Recalled a second time on July 8 and stayed with the club until August 20 making 21 starts while Y. Molina was on the DL... Made first start since September 26, 2002 on July 9 at SF... Matched his career high with 3 RBI July 21 vs. MIL... Snapped an 0-20 skid with run-scoring single August 13 at CHC that proved to be the GW-RBI, his first as a Cardinal... Hit 1st ML home run August 14 off Cubs' M. Prior... Was recalled August 31 from Triple-A to set postseason roster.

Put together a pair of 10-game hitting streaks (5/22-6/15 & 7/19-8/1). Had a season-high three hits on three occasions (5/17 vs. Tacoma, 6/7 at Iowa & 8/5 at Las Vegas).
Hit safely in 15 of 16 games from 5/22-6/24, lifting his BA from .233 to .312.
Nine of his 20 hits in August went for extra bases and 12 of his 32 RBI came in season's final month.

Spent entire season at Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs' system...batted .258 with two homers and 18 RBI in 65 games...appeared in 51 games as a catcher (.256, 168 AB, 43 H, 2 HR, 17 RBI), four at first base (.333, 9 AB, 3H), one as designated hitter (.250 BA) and 10 as a pinch hitter (.222, 9 AB, 2 H)...hit safely in 10 of 12 games from 6/3-22 (14 H, 42 AB, .333)...collected a seasonhigh three hits on four occasions (5/11 at Albuquerque, 5/27 vs. Nashville, 8/23 vs. Albuquerque and 8/29 vs. Oklahoma City)...had five-game hitting streak 5/24-29 (8-for-15, .533)...best month came in May when he batted .359 in 13 games (14-for-39, 4 RBI)...drove in a season-high three runs 6/20 at Nashville.
2002
Began the season at Triple-A Iowa, but appeared with the Cubs twice during the regular season...overall at Iowa batted .256 with 12 doubles, two homers and 18 RBI...for the Cubs, batted .207 in 16 games...made nine starts behind the plate and threw out all four runners attempting to steal off him...made Cubs debut on 7/18 at PHI (1-for-3)...on 9/12 at CIN, went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBI.
2001
Spent the entire season at Triple-A Iowa...batted .225 with 14 doubles, three homers and 27 RBI...appeared in 85 games behind the plate, one game at first base and one game at third...combined to commit just three errors...tossed out 20 of 55 baserunners attempting to steal (36.4%).
2000
Earned his first taste of the Major Leagues after having contract purchased by the Cubs in early September...began the season at Double-A West Tennessee, where he batted .303 in 24 games (7- 2B, 7- RBI)...was promoted to Triple-A Iowa on 5/23, appearing in 63 games (54 behind the plate)...batted a career-high .304 with six homers and 28 RBI...made his only appearance as a pitcher on 8/8 at Albuquerque, allowing five runs on four hits in 1.0 inning...joined the Cubs' roster on 9/5, and went 2-for-7 in four games...made his big league debut on 9/8 vs. HOU...collected first ML hit 9/30 at PIT (single off Todd Ritchie)...went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double in first M.L. start.
