William Michael (Mike) Hampton...Has two sons, Gage and Griffin, and resides in Paradise Valley, Ariz...Was a two-time All-State selection in football and baseball at Crystal River High School (Fla.)...he went 10-3 with a 0.42 ERA and 153 strikeouts over 93.0 innings in 14 games as a senior...Is an inductee in the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame.

2007
Missed the entire 2007 season after being placed on the disabled list on 3/30 (retroactive to 3/23) with a strained left oblique. While on the disabled list, it was discovered by Dr. Dave Altcheck during an examination in New York on 4/9 that he had a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow. Surgery was performed on 4/10 and he was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 4/14. Made one start for Navojoa of the Mexican Winter League on 11/22 and fanned one and allowed a hit in 1.0 IP before leaving due to an injured right hamstring.
2006
Missed the entire 2006 season while rehabilitating from "Tommy John" surgery, performed by Dr. Dave Altcheck in New York on Sept. 26, 2005...Is expected to be at full strength for the 2007 season.
2005
Despite getting off to a great start to the 2005 campaign, Mike struggled through an injury-plagued year that included five trips to the DL and missing a total of 118 team games. ... Hit a home run (#15 career) on 5/8 vs. HOU. His 15 career homers lead all active pitchers. ... Allowed just one run in six innings of work in his 2005 debut on 4/6 at FLA, but went without the decision in the Braves' 13-inning, 2-1 win. Mike had an infield single and two sacrifice bunts. ... Earned his first win of the season with a dominating game vs. WSH on 4/11. Went 8.0 innings and allowed just one run (solo homer by Jose Guillen) on seven hits and no walks. He also had two hits of his own - his 26th career multi-hit game. ... Pitched 8.0 shutout innings at PHI on 4/17, but did not earn a decision, as the Braves lost 2-1 in 10 innings. He allowed only three hits and two walks and only one runner reached second base (Michaels - double in 7th inning). Mike had a potential game-winning two-out double of his own in the eighth inning, but Johnny Estrada was thrown out at home plate to end the inning. ... Went 8.2 IP on 4/22 vs. PHI, allowing just two runs on seven hits in a 6-2 win. It was his longest outing since 5/18/04 when he went 9.0 innings and took the loss in Randy Johnson's perfect game in Atlanta. ... On 5/8 vs. HOU, he threw his first CG since 5/18/04 and his first shutout since 5/9/01. The two hits allowed mark the fewest in a complete game in Mike's career. ... Left his 5/14 start at LA in the third inning with a strained left forearm. Was placed on the 15-day DL on 5/21 (retroactive to 5/15). Prior to leaving the game, he pitched 2.1 scoreless. ... Returned from the DL on 5/31 at WSH and pitched 4.0 scoreless innings before leaving the game. Was officially placed back on the DL on 6/5 (retroactive to 6/1). ... Returned from the DL on 7/17 at NYM and lasted just 2.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits (1 HR) and throwing 58 pitches. The 8-1 loss was the 100th of his career and his season ERA jumped 68 points, from 1.83 to 2.51. ... Made his first start since 7/17, and only his second since 5/31, when he was activated from the DL on 8/14 after making two injury rehabilitation starts. Went five innings and allowed three runs (one in the first inning, two in the second) in a 13-8 Braves win. It was just the fourth time in his career that he pitched at least five innings and had no strikeouts (272 career 5+ inning games). ... Had an August setback due to a strained lower back. Missed his start at ARI on 7/23 and was placed on the DL on 7/27 (retroactive to 7/18). Was later found to have a herniated disk in his back. ... Had season-ending "Tommy John" surgery on 9/26 in New York. The 1-1/2 hour procedure was performed by Dr. Dave Altchek, who on 9/14 had confirmed the earlier diagnosis of the Braves medical staff - that the source of Hampton's forearm pain was coming from his elbow.
2004
Ranked among National League leaders in percent of ground balls induced (66.7%) and GDP/9 IP (1.03)...Finished the year on a strong note, going 12-2 in his last 16 starts...Went 4-1 with a 4.67 ERA in August and was 5-0, 2.62 in July...Mike allowed the third-most homers (15) on the team, but he allowed just five in his last 14 starts (86.1 IP)...Of his 86 runs allowed, 25 (29%) came in the first inning. Opponents hit .331 (40-for-121) off Mike in the first inning...His 14 career homers lead all active pitchers...Was on the losing end of Randy Johnson's perfect game on 5/18. Mike went the distance for his 20th career CG, allowing just two runs on eight hits in the historic contest...Was 0-5 for the first time in his career until winning on 5/23 vs. LA in a 5-1 Braves victory. Mike left the game with a 2-0 lead after throwing 4.1 scoreless innings. The Braves went on to win 8-1. Mike underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the torn meniscus (performed by Dr. Marvin Royster) on 10/5...Made a strong comeback in his first outing since injuring his knee on 9/25 vs. FLA, going 7.0 shutout innings and allowing just three hits while walking none...Eclipsed 2,000 career innings pitched on 10/1 at CHI...Had his seven-game winning streak snapped on 8/21 at LA...Missed his start on 6/13 at CWS due to a bruised left biceps. Was also forced to skip his start vs. PHI on 9/6 due to a stiff neck. 2004 POSTSEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Division Series (Hou.): Started Game 2 in Houston, going 6.1 solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits before leaving the game with tightness in his left forearm...The only damage came on solo HRs by Jeff Bagwell in the first inning and Raul Chavez in the third...Appeared in relief in Game 4, gutting out a scoreless seventh inning to help the Braves tie the series with a 6-5 win in Atlanta.

He gave up both runs in the first inning, but rebounded to strike out the side in order to end the first and did so in the 2nd inning to become just the 4th pitcher in postseason history to strike out six straight hitters (1985- Todd Worrell, StL vs. KC; 1966- Moe Drabowski, Bal. vs. LA; 1919- Hod Eller, Cin. vs. Chi-A)...Went 1 x 2 at the plate...In Game 5, he got the loss in the 5-1 Cubs' clincher (6.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K)...Mike gave up a leadoff HR to Alex Gonzalez in the 2nd inning and a two-run HR to Aramis Ramirez.

In his first season as a Rockie, led the staff in wins (14), starts (32), innings pitched (203.0) and tied for the club lead in shutouts (1) en route to being named Rockies Pitcher of the Year by the local chapter of the BBWAA...Earned the first All-Star berth by a pitcher in franchise history...Ranked third in the NL with 338 ground balls induced and tied San Francisco's Kirk Rueter for the NL lead in doubleplays induced per 9.0 innings pitched at 1.29...Turned in one of the most spectacular power hitting seasons by a pitcher in major league history...With seven homers he tied a pair of Dodgers, Don Drysdale (1958, 1965) and Don Newcombe (1955) for the National League record for a pitcher...His 23 hits and 16 RBI also set new franchise records and the 16 RBI were the most by any big league pitcher since Don Robinson had 16 with Pittsburgh in 1982...Became the first pitcher in Rockies history to earn the Louisville Silver Slugger Award (top hitter at each position)...Made his Colorado debut in spectacular fashion on Opening Day, April 2, vs. St. Louis...Missed by two outs of firing a complete game shutout as he blanked the Cardinals over 8.1 innings with the Rockies eventually winning 8-0...First hit as a Rockie was his first career homer and it came in just his second start, April 7, at Coors Field off then-Padre Woody Williams...Faced the Padres again on April 18 and blanked SD over 8.0 innings at Qualcomm Stadium...Went 3-0 in April and then won his first two starts in May including a complete game shutout over his former club, the Mets, on May 9 at Coors Field (threw 119 pitches, inducing four doubleplays, and thus faced only three batters over the minimum)...It was the eighth CG shutout of his career, the 11th CG shutout in Coors Field history, fourth by a Rockies pitcher at Coors Field and 10th overall thrown by a Colorado pitcher...won his first five decisions of the season (tying a club record) before Atlanta spoiled his perfect season May 15 at Turner Field...On June 5 vs. Houston at Coors Field, Hampton homered in consecutive at-bats off the Astros Wade Miller to become the first pitcher in Colorado history to homer twice in a game and first ML pitcher since LA's Darren Dreifort on August 8, 2000...Mike also totaled eight bases on the afternoon (new club record for a pitcher), knocked in a season best three runs and recorded the victory...Won his first two starts in June to run his record to 9-2 with a 2.98 ERA, the best start of his ML career...Homered for the third time in four at-bats with a solo homer in his first at-bat June 10 vs. St. Louis at Coors Field...Recorded no decision at Arizona July 1 despite belting his sixth homer, the 100th hit of his ML career...Was 9-5 with a 4.02 ERA at the All-Star break and became the first pitcher in franchise history to earn an All-Star berth...Named to the squad by former manager Bobby Valentine, Mike pitched the fifth inning at Safeco Field (allowed one hit, one unearned run)...Lost his first two starts after the break to run his losing streak to a career high five (over seven starts)...finally snapped the streak with a complete game five-hit win over San Francisco at Coors Field July 23, allowing just a Shawon Dunston eighth inning two-run pinch homer...Belted his record-tying seventh homer off Chicago's Felix Heredia on Aug. 9 at Wrigley Field.

With an NL-leading 22 wins, Hampton surpassed Joe Niekros 1979 Astros record of 21 and became the first left-handed 20-game winner in Houston history...Among the NL leaders, he ranked first in winning percentage (.846, 22-4), third in ERA (2.90), fourth in innings (239.0), tied for second in shutouts (2) and sixth in opponents batting average (.241)...His strikeouts (177), wins and innings were career bests...The Sporting News NL Pitcher of the Year and first-time all-star, he finished second in the Cy Young voting with 110 points (Randy Johnson, 134)...Topped 200 ip for the third straight year...At the plate, Hampton hit .311 (23-for-74), becoming the first pitcher to win 20 games and hit .300 in the same season since Oaklands Catfish Hunter (21- 11; .350, 36-for-103) in 1971...Mike earned the pitchers spot on Louisvilles NL Silver Slugger team...Won 11 straight decisions, June 30 - Sept. 13, the longest 1999 streak in the majors...From June 14 - Sept. 13, he pitched at least 7.0 innings in 17 consecutive assignments...Reached 7.0 IP in 28 of his 34 starts...On Sept. 3 at Montreal, he surpassed 1,000 career innings...Hurled complete games in two straight starts, July 18 vs. Cleveland and July 23 vs. San Diego...1999 POSTSEASON HIGHLIGHTS: Division Series (Atl.): In his only appearance, he went 7.0 IP on three runs, one walk and nine Ks in a no-decision.

Mike went 10-10 with a 3.59 ERA, two complete games and his first major league shutout...after the season, he underwent exploratory arthroscopic surgery; in the Sept. 30 procedure, Dr. Bill Bryan relieved an impingement condition in his shoulder.

The youngest player on Houston's roster (23), Hampton first full season in a major league rotation, finished 11th in the NL with a 3.35 ERA...the Astros placed him on the disabled list May 14 with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left elbow...soon after his June 13 activation, he won six straight decisions, June 28-Aug. 6...over the seven-start stretch, he compiled a 2.79 ERA (15 ER, 48.1 IP).
1994
The reliever made his NL debut Opening Day vs. Montreal...on April 29, he defeated St. Louis for his first NL win...from May 10-June 14, he allowed one ER in 13.2 IP (0.66); the streak lowered his season ERA from 6.23 to 2.82...Hampton stranded 19 of his 27 inherited runners (.704).
1993
Mike made Seattle's Opening Day roster and made his major league debut April 17 at Detroit...in 2.2 innings, he allowed four hits and four runs and sustained the loss...he registered his first major league win April 23 vs. the Yankees...optioned to Jacksonville (AA) of the Southern League May 11, Hampton returned to the majors June 28...he notched his first and only big-league save, July 15 at Fenway Park.

Voted San Bernardino (A) team MVP, he led the California League with two shutouts...a league all-star, Hampton was tabbed by Baseball America the fifth-best prospect in the Seattle system.

Hampton opened with San Bernardino (A), then moved to Bellingham (A) of the Northwest League, July 16...on May 31, he no-hit Visalia; he walked three and fanned five in a 6-0 win.

The 17-year-old left-hander led the Arizona league with seven wins in his pro debut.
