In 1996 graduated from Diamond Bar (Calif.) High School...in 2000 graduated with a degree in criminal justice from Cal State-Los Angeles in Monterey Park, Calif...is a substitute teacher and coach in the offseason.
2006
SUMMARY: Spent most of the season in the Reds organization before being acquired by the Red Sox for righthander Tim Bausher on August 28...a member of Cincinnati's Opening Day roster, Burns had 3 stints with the Reds during the season: Opening Day-April 19, May 14-23 and June 18-26...until his trade to Boston, spent the remainder of his time with Triple-A Louisville...joined Boston's 25-man roster on August 29 and spent the rest of the season with the Red Sox...agreed to terms on a 2007 contract on October 13 and was assigned outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
WITH BOSTON: Spent the final 34 days of the season with the Red Sox, posting no record and a 4.70 ERA in 7 relief appearances...boasted a 1.50 ERA (1 ER/6.0 IP) in his first 5 outings and combined to allow 3 runs in 1.2 innings in his final 2 appearances...had 4 games finished with the Red Sox...struck out 7 in 7.2 innings and walked only one, which was intentional...between the Red Sox and Cincinnati, combined to post a 7.29 ERA (17 ER/21.0 IP) in 18 relief appearances...recorded a 4.0-to-one strikeout to walk ratio with 16 strikeouts and only 4 walks, 2 of which were intentional.

Split the season between Triple-A Round Rock and the Astros...in his Major League debut appeared in 27 games over 3 stints in Houston...at Round Rock posted a 2.10 ERA in 25 relief appearances and led the staff with 13 saves...began the season with Round Rock...was promoted on May 13 and optioned back on May 22...was recalled on June 10 and returned to Round Rock on August 31...on September 6 was promoted again and spent the rest of the season with the Astros...made his big league debut on May 13 vs. San Francisco, allowing one hit in 1.1 innings...did not allow an earned run in any of his last 5 appearances of the season (5.0 IP)...didn't allow a run in July (8 games, 10.0 IP)...posted a 1.29 ERA in September and a 3.10 ERA on the road...in 9 games from July 3-August 3 threw 11.0 scoreless innings...5 times threw 2.0 innings.
2004
At Class AA Round Rock was a Texas League All-Star after finishing 11-3, 1.67 with 9 saves in 56 apps...was 1 of 8 Express players named to that all-star team...led the club in ERA (1.67) and apps (56) and ranked second in wins (11) despite making all 56 apps in relief...ranked among the league pitching leaders in apps (3rd) and Rolaids Relief Man Award points (3rd).
2003
At Class-AA Round Rock went 2-13, 6.13 in 14 starts and 24 relief apps...ranked third in the Texas League in losses.
