Began the season on the disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle and missed the first two months of the season…spent most of the year at Double-A Harrisburg where he was 3-6 with a 3.04 ERA in 17 games (11 starts)…also made one start with Triple-A Syracuse in August and was 3-6 with a 2.89 ERA in 18 games (12 starts) overall…issued just 13 walks in 81.0 innings, an average of 1.44 per nine innings…allowed a .242 opponents batting average, including .239 (32-for-134) against left-handed hitters and .244 (40-for-164) against right-handers…surrendered five of his seven home runs to righties…six came with the bases empty…yielded a .186 batting average with runners in scoring position, including .115 with RISP and two outs…made his first six appearances of the season out of the bullpen and was 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA…stranded his only two inherited runners…each of his final 12 outings were starts and he went 2-6 with a 2.93 ERA in those games…walked one batter or fewer in nine of his 12 starts and more than two just once…went 3-for-12 (.250) with a double, walk, run scored and two strikeouts as a hitter…with Harrisburg, was 2-3 with a 2.23 ERA in nine games at home, 1-3 with a 4.25 ERA in eight games on the road.

Spent the entire season at Double-A Arkansas where he went 7-7 with a 3.77 ERA in 32 games, including 19 starts…the starts were a career high as 216 of his 219 appearances over his first five years were in relief…walked just 12 batters in 119.1 innings, an average of 0.91 per nine innings…struck out a career-high 113 for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 8.52…ranked fourth in the Texas League in strikeouts and sixth in ERA…also had career highs in starts and innings pitched and matched his best in wins…was 2-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 18 games (five starts) before the All-Star Break, 5-5 with a 4.64 ERA in 14 starts after the break…his first 13 appearances of the season came in relief and he went 0-2 with a 2.84 ERA…his final 19 outings were starts beginning May 26 and he was 7-5 with a 3.95 ERA in those games…went 3-0 with a 1.26 ERA over his first six starts…allowed a .267 opponents batting average, including .242 against right-handed hitters compared to .310 against left-handers…opponents hit .296 with runners in scoring position, but that dropped to .227 with RISP and two outs…issued all 12 of his walks on the road…nine came against left-handed hitters…did not walk a batter in 60.1 innings at home…issued just one walked to a batter leading off an inning…walked one batter or fewer in 30 of his 32 games…issued six of his 12 walks in back-to-back starts on July 2 at Midland (4) and July 7 at Frisco (2)…surrendered one home run over his first 24 games and 73.0 innings…then yielded nine over his final eight starts and 46.1 innings…was 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA in four starts in June…walked just one and struck out 22 in 22.2 innings…tossed 6.0 scoreless innings and struck out a season-high nine July 12 against Frisco…made one postseason start and had a no decision (5.0 ip, 3 h, 3 r, 3 er, 2 bb, 9 so).

Was with the Miami Marlins during the spring and went 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA in two appearances in his Major League Spring Training debut…was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels on April 2 and combined for a 1-6 record, four saves and a 4.50 ERA in 45 games (three starts) with Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake…had a 2.98 ERA in 28 games with Arkansas, a 7.01 ERA in 17 games with Salt Lake…allowed a .271 opponents batting average, including .252 against left-handed hitters compared to .285 against right-handers…opponents hit .304 with runners in scoring position…allowed 9-of-17 (52.9%) inherited runners to score with Arkansas but just 1-of-8 (12.5%) with Salt Lake.

In fourth professional season, posted 2-2 record with 23 saves and 1.53 ERA (53.0 IP/9 ER) at Double-A Jacksonville and earned both Midseason and Postseason Southern League All-Star honors. Owns a lifetime strikeout-to-walk ratio of 7.3/1 and has averaged 10.23 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Led Southern League in saves and tied for lead in games finished (44, also Yimi Garcia), while ranking tied for third in appearances. ERA was fourth-lowest among all Marlins Minor Leaguers with at least 30 appearances, while saves total ranked third, behind Chris Hatcher (33) and Nick Wittgren (26). Converted first 10 saves of season before taking loss in save opportunity on June 15 vs. Montgomery. Finished campaign by converting 11 consecutive opportunities. Struck out side in first game of season, April 4 vs. Jackson, to establish a season high. Also, struck out three over 2.0 innings on June 25 at Mobile. Tossed season-high 2.0 innings on July 11 at Tennessee, and equaled innings total four more times over remainder of season. Allowed nine runs (eight earned) over first 26 appearances (2.60 ERA). Surrendered just three runs (one earned) over final 23 contests (25.1 IP) for a 0.36 ERA. In 22 road games, posted miniscule 0.36 ERA (25.1/1), while in 27 home games owned a 2.60 ERA (27.2/8). Lowered ERA over a run from first half to second half. In 24 first-half contests, posted 2.10 ERA (25.2/6). In 25 second-half games, dropped mark to 0.99 (27.1/3).

In 2012, led Single-A Jupiter with 50 appearances and an organization-best 22 saves. Named to Florida State League Midseason All-Star team. Played with Phoenix Desert Dogs in Arizona Fall League following season, posting 1-1 record and 2.25 ERA (12.0/3), earning spot in AFL Rising Stars Game.

At Single-A Greensboro in 2011, led Club with 1.91 ERA (61.1/13), ranked second with 48 appearances and tied for team lead in wins among relievers (7). Issued 11 combined walks in 49 appearances to mark a career high. Has not walked more than nine in any other season.
