High School, where he was named a Rawlings-Perfect Game first-team All-American as a senior in 2016...Was also selected Perfect Game underclass high honorable mention All-American as a junior in 2015...Selected by the Tigers in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Elk Grove High School (Calif.) 2022

Limited to 12 starts during the 2022 season after missing much of the season due to injury... Made his season debut on April 11 vs. Boston, allowing just one run on one hit with two strikeouts in 6.0 innings...the outing was just the fourth since the start of the 2008 season where a Tigers pitcher no older than 24 years old tossed 6.0-or-more innings and allowed no more than one hit... Sidelined from April 20 (retroactive to April 17)-Aug. 2 with right shoulder inflammation... Pitched into the seventh inning for the first time as a Major Leaguer on Aug. 7 vs. Tampa Bay, tossing 7.0 shutout innings with four hits allowed, three walks and seven strikeouts...also threw 7.0 innings on Aug. 19 vs. Los Angeles (NL) and Sept. 16 vs. Chicago (AL)... Struck out a career-high eight batters in 6.0 shutout innings on Aug. 24 vs. San Francisco...was the first Tigers pitcher to toss at least 6.0 innings, allow no runs or walks and strike out at least eight since Michael Fulmer did so in a shutout at Texas on Aug. 14, 2016... Placed on the 60-day injured list on Sept. 29 with a right forearm strain and missed the rest of the season.

2021

Made the first 18 starts of his Major League career in 2021...also started seven games with Triple-A Toledo. ...Put together his best start of the season for Toledo on June 9 vs. Louisville, picking up the win after allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings. ...Made his Major League debut June 17 at Los Angeles (AL), tossing 5.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts... struck out Justin Upton to end the second inning for his first big league punchout...Earned his first big league win June 23 vs. St. Louis, allowing two runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout in 5.2 innings...became the first Tigers starter to earn a win in one of his first two games since Michael Fulmer won his debut April 29, 2016. ...Recorded his first career quality start and picked up the win on July 21 vs. Texas, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts...became the first Tigers rookie to allow no more than two earned runs in five of his first six starts since Drew Smyly held opponents to two-or-fewer earned runs in each of his first six starts in 2012. ...Made his final three starts of the season against Chicago (AL)...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, he became the first Tigers pitcher to face the same opponent in three straight starts, all within a single season, since 1978 when Jim Slaton (June 1-13) and Milt Wilcox (May 31-June 12) had three consecutive starts vs. Milwaukee. ...Finished the season strong, working 5.0 shutout innings Oct. 2 at Chicago (AL), allowing two hits with one walk and a career-high seven strikeouts...allowed three runs or less in seven of his last nine appearances.

One of the top prospects in baseball, he spent the entire 2020 season at the alternate training site in Toledo...Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Tigers organization and the No. 17 prospect overall by Baseball America...also rated as possessing the best curveball in the player development system.

2019

Named the Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2019 after making 24 starts and posting an 11-5 record with a 2.56 ERA (133.2IP/38ER) and 148 strikeouts... Selected to the Eastern League midseason and postseason All-Star Teams and was named an organization All-Star by MiLB...was also tabbed a Double A All-Star by Baseball America... Ranked second in the Eastern League in strikeouts and WHIP (0.98), while he was tied for second in opponent batting average (.192, 93x484), third in ERA, tied for third in wins, eighth in innings pitched and tied for eighth in games started... Earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending April 14 after throwing 7.0 shutout innings with one hit allowed and 10 strikeouts on April 10 vs. Altoona... Posted his second double-digit strikeout game of the season on May 21 at Hartford, fanning 10...added a third 10-strikeout performance on August 9 at New Hampshire... Named Tigers Minor League Pitcher of the Month in May, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.44 ERA (31.1IP/5ER) and 34 strikeouts in five starts... Made just 15 starts in 2023 due to two separate stints on the injured list... Sidelined from April 12-June 26 with a right foot fracture... Started the Tigers combined no-hitter against Toronto on July 8, tossing 6.2 innings with three walks and five strikeouts...marked his fourth career start with at least 6.0 shutout innings... After working 6.0 scoreless innings with two hits allowed, two walks and four strikeouts on Aug. 31 vs. New York (AL), became the second pitcher in franchise history to have back-to-back starts with at least 6.0 shutout innings and two-or-fewer hits allowed, joining Michael Fulmer, who had three straight from June 1-12, 2016... Allowed just one earned run over five starts from Aug. 12-Sept. 6, posting a 0.36 ERA (24.2IP/1ER) with 11 hits allowed in that span... Placed on the injured list on Sept. 7 with a right foot fracture and missed the rest of the season.
