Graduated from San Jose HS in Caguas, Puerto Rico...Played baseball, basketball, volleyball and soccer in high school...Luis and his wife, Miltza, have two daughters, Gabriela (9/18/94) and Monica, and two sons, Luis (9/5/97) and Fernando...Was originally signed by Padres scout Jose Garcia.
2005
Lopez began the season with Triple-A Louisville, batting .264 with a home run and nine RBIs over 29 games. He was promoted on May 20 and appeared in 17 games with the Reds, including four starts (two games at second base, two games at third). On July 7, he had season-ending surgery to repair a 70-percent tear in his right hamstring.
1998
In his first full season with the Mets established career highs in games played (117), at-bats (266), runs scored (37), doubles (13) and triples (2)...also established a career high with a 7-game hitting streak (7/22-7/29)...on 4/30 vs Col made his first career appearance in the outfield with a start in LF...on 9/7 vs Atl tied his career high with 4rbi (other, 5/23/94 vs SF).
1999
In his second full season with the Mets made 68 apps...made 11 starts at SS and 5gs at 2B...hit .318 in April.
2000
For the Brewers made 28 starts at SS, 14gs at 2B and 1gs at 3B...established career highs in homers (6) and RBI (27)...on 5/24 vs Atl hit the first pinch-hit HR of his career (off Mike Remlinger)...on 9/3 at Col tied his career high with 4 hits (6/22/94 vs LA)...from 9/9-9/24 tied his career high with a 7-game hitting streak (7/22-7/29, 1998).
2001
For the Brewers made 51 starts, including 33gs at 3B, 9gs at 2B and 9gs at SS...hit .296 after the All-Star break, including .299 in August and .346 in September.
2002
Appeared in 58g for the Orioles and Brewers...began the season on Mil's disabled list with a strained right quadriceps muscle...made 6 rehab apps at Class AAA Indianapolis before he was reinstated on 5/19...for the Brewers went 0-for-8 in 6 apps before he was released on 6/6...on 6/18 was signed to a minor league contract by the Orioles and assigned to Class AAA Rochester...hit safely in 15 of his 17 apps for Rochester before he was promoted on 7/ 12...spent the second half of the season with Bal and made 18 starts...led the O's with 24 pinch hit apps...on 8/6 vs Min hit his second career grand slam (off LaTroy Hawkins)...hit his other homer on 9/15 at Bos...on 7/20 vs WSox pinch hit, doubled, scored the tying run and then remained in the game to make his first career appearance at 1B...was released following the season.
2004
Spent the entire season with the Orioles...appeared in 56g, including 14g at SS, 11g at 3B, 6g at 1B and 6g at 2B...prior to the '04 season had made only 1 career appearance at 1B (7/20/02 vs WSox)...also made 8 starts as the club's designated hitter...entered 3g as a pinch runner and went 1-for-15 as a pinch hitter...on 7/3 at Phi snapped a career-high 0-for-17 skid with a homer, his first since 9/15/02...on 9/13 at Tor struck out as a pinch hitter and was ejected for arguing the called third strike...on 10/20 had arthroscopic surgery to clean out his left knee (Dr. Andrew Casgarea)...following the season refused an outright assignment to the minors and elected free agency.
